This is one of the more heartbreaking episodes. First, they gave us Emily in Wonderland. Now, we get Richard in Stars Hollow.
Since Richard is now retired, he is home a lot and is driving Emily crazy. She's not used to having him around so much, so she calls up Lorelai and asks (demands) that Lorelai host him for a day. Unfortunately, his presence drives Lorelai crazy too. She begs Rory to keep him entertained so she can catch a break. Things get heated when Dean shows up to Lorelais house with the car he built for Rory. Richard is furious and tells Rory not to accept the car. Dean and Richard get into an awkward argument which results in them going to Gypsy's to get the car checked out. Turns out that there is nothing wrong with the car, but we get some hilarious exchange between Richard & Dean.
When Richards arrives back at Lorelais, they get into a big argument and Richard tells Lorelai that he knows Emily set up the whole day, to get him out of her hair. It's really heartbreaking to say the least. He comes home to a happy wife and tells her he had a great time with the girls, then goes to his study and sulks.
