This is the episode where we meet Luke's nephew, Jess. He is a teenage punk who has had a rough upbringing. His mom, Liz, sends him to Stars Hollow in hopes that he will straighten up and he's not too thrilled until he meets a sweet innocent Rory. Jess and Lorelai don't get along and she tells Luke that he's in way over his head in trying to help Jess. Luke secretly knows this, but argues with Lorelai anyways. We find out later that Jess is actually pretty book smart, he's just got a lot of baggage to work through. This episode also includes the famous scene of Luke pushing Jess into the lake.
