Spanish Silver
LiLTORTYA9 November 2007
This is the episode where we see Rory speak in broken Spanish and polishes the silver with Esperanza. I love the frustration on Emily here. This is also when we get to see yet another side of Lorelai, Rory, and of Emily. They all shift in feeling despair and hold on tight to the stubborn ways, as to not back down on a feeling they are trying out. Rory will not admit yet on how all of her troubles (or at least the main ones) could be dealt with if she just let her guard down and make up with her mother. A good game a Bagel Hockey is in desperate need here. Don't you think? Lorelai is deeply hurt from not having her assurance with Rory and settles on pouring her love into something, or someone, that could offer her warmth in return. Emily is as stern as ever setting control and having that lurking over Lorelai's head. Evil, I tell ya.

Just a little info/trivia

The song playing on the car radio while Lorelei is driving is "Saddest Quo" by Pernice Brothers.

A lot of people hate on this season, but I think it fits. Rory was blind-sided by both her love for Logan and the calculated bashing by his father. She was overdue for some emotional drama at her age.

The One Where Lorelai Adopts A Dog...
taylorkingston3 May 2015
Warning: Spoilers
I enjoy this episode. It's funny and I love the introduction of Paul Anka, Lorelai's new dog.

In this episode, Lorelai feels lonely since she and Rory aren't on speaking terms, so to cheer herself up, she adopts a dog. He's adorable and she names him Paul Anka. Luke agrees to fix the house, rather than by the Twykham house. But then trouble occurs when T.J. wants to be the contractor. Meanwhile, Rory starts her community service, which isn't fun at all. After that, she feels sad and goes to see Luke at the diner. Luke accidentally lets it slip that he and Lorelai are engaged, which makes Rory feel even worse.

Fun Fact: Rory tells Esperanza that she only speaks a little Spanish. Alexis Bledel who plays Rory speaks fluent Spanish as it is her first language.

Overall, I give this episode a 7 out of 10, which in my ratings book is: Great.

Funny Episode
myronlearn9 March 2021
The references to Ann Coulter by Richard and G. Gordon Liddy by Emily are absolutely hysterical and spot on! This episode also introduces the amazing Paul Anka who Lorelei adopts probably to help fill the void of Rory's absence and who becomes a lovable part of her family. This is one of the best of Season 6. It's 'pre-April' thankfully.

What a stup!d name "paul anka" I laugh at what toy said when she squeezed it.

Once again, we see Lorelei spending money in stupid things when a month ago was crying because she hadn't the money to open the Inn.... MAKE IT MORE BELIEVABLE PEOPLE! Oh right, it is a finished tv show.. but, if they ever ever read user reviews, they might consider some of the stuff we are saying.

Oh Jesus, Luke don't like dogs. I don't trust people who don't like dogs. Period.

And what's all that about "now that we are together I can voice my opinion regarding your daughter" thing? Butt out Luke.

Well, we don't need a recount of what happened in the episode because it is already written.. this is more like a point of view.. did you like it? Did you not? Why? And so.

Once again Emily and her narcissistic snobbery prevented Rory from ever talk to a cleaning lady on her house again. And what's up with the "what language is that?" She went to an Ivy leage college but doesnt know how spanish sound like. I can know what language it is with a lot of them, even tho I don't talk.

Maybe Emily wasted a lot of time and money since she wasn't going to do anything with the degree since she was going to play house and DAR meetings (what degree? Nobody told, it is a mistery) Later on we see, like always, another maid.

Lorelei show sings of not wanting the seriousness of a relationship, not wanting to sell her house who was bought with a salary of a single mother that nobody in real life could afford. But I understand not wanting to sell the house.. and then, we see the egoistical fascet of hers... but he is not less egoistical.. he wanted to buy that huge mansion for them, without consulting her.

Too big and costly for 2 people, even if they have 2 children. I guess is the "american" way (american in quotes because for me America is a continent)

Rory don't want a full time job even tho it is something (once again) that it is handed freely to her, because 300hs of comunity service in 6 months is "too much". I crunch some numbers (yes, I had the 1 or 2 minutes that you need to figure it out) and if you divide the hours you get at least 2.5 hs per day from monday to friday. You can work just fine.

Luke was with some working men working on lorelei's house to do an enlargement.. without consulting her.. Stup!d the part when Lorelei comes home, see a huge hole in her bedroom and goes angry at Luke's, grab him by the arm and drag him to her house without a word. Not funny and stup!d. Who did it?? Dimwit TJ, the stupidier of the bunch, that has some more air time, once more. Because he is "so funny" he hold the job even tho he ruined lorelei's house. But that's not it!! Hear this: she wants to help him and pay more for him to be there. Fast forwarding!!

Do you see how this tv show remained in the air for so long? Were we stup!d ourselves? It is not my first time watching this thing.

Again, stup!d annoying Liz makes an appearance. Not funny, not charming, clumy, etc.

The situation at the community service change radically when the timid Rory talks so confident with all the innmates/fellows. She also give commands, being the second hand of the one directing the thing, and has no issues with the girl that bully her the first day. This is out of character. I feel the same as to when she approached to Emily snob rich friends.

Paris goes to the Inn to talk to Lorelei given the fact that she told her that she could do that, and when she overstayed enough we see Lorelai traying for Paris to go away by herself, givin her hints and whatnot, instead of telling her "honey, I'm working, see you another time".

She's rude as always and writers try to portray that as something funny "oh look how annoyed is suki because she's returning all the food" or "i'm laughing because all the help is scared of her" instead of put her in her place. Of course, we wouldn't have this easy cheap comedy, but then again, there are writers and producers who know the right people, and good writers that don't know anybody and stay in the shadows.

It is like many people said: these are immature childish people that don't kno how to socially behave. I can understand from a younger person, not her, Lorelai, working (and living) with people for years. Another situation that feels that this tv show is more for teenagers/ pre adolescents.

Paul Anka
ISmellSnow13 January 2021
Lorelai adopts a cute dog and names his Paul Anka, he has many quirks just like everyone else on the show :) Rory starts community service. Luke decides to expand Lorelais house but TJ thinks he is the contractor. Rory ends up visiting Luke's diner and during awkward small talk, Luke tells Rory that he and Lorelai are engaged.
