Witless for the Prosecution

Warning: Spoilers
Painful episode to watch has Max the target of KAOS killers who wish to eliminate him before he can testify against one of their men in court. CONTROL's new scientist Dr. Bascomb (George Ives) first designs new security measures at Max's apartment (sadly, they are not as good as the old security measures we've previously seen in Max's apartment). However Max is evicted after most of his apartment is destroyed. So moves in with Dr. Bascomb. The episode really suffers from the absence of Ed Platt as the Chief. Clearly the part of Bascomb was supposed to be Platt's but was rewritten for Ives. For whatever reason Platt was unavailable and while Ives is passable, he's no Platt and his character has no history with Max. Better they would have rewritten the part for Agent 13 or Hymie or even Larabee. But character in this script is sacrificed for what passes for as jokes as Max is suddenly afraid of thunder and "gollywoggles". He sings "When the Saints Go Marching In" before bed. The only real good moments happen when Max tries to cross the street to testify. Buck Henry left the show after the second season and here it really shows.
