A terrific script by Gardner and Carusco starts with CONTROL trying to hide and protect a federal witness, Tanya Lupescu (the very sexy Susanne Cramer). They end up in a Mexican standoff at a hotel. After the standoff comes to its conclusion, the Chief decides that Ms. Lupescu would be best protected in Smart's apartment (an idea 99 is NOT crazy about!).
KAOS decides to send in one of their top assassins--Alexis Sebastian. He's so good he even guested for Johnny Carson for two weeks without anyone noticing! Sebastian decides to go in disguised as the Chief, which gives Ed Platt a chance to show off a little more of his acting chops than usual. Director Bruce Bilson keeps things moving at a brisk pace as max and 99 get the two Chiefs mixed up, and then Smart figures out which is the real Chief (maybe).
The German born Cramer adds a lot of sex appeal to this episode. wearing a towel at one point and a pajama top another time. Tragically she died of pneumonia only four years after this episode was filmed.
