It's da Bomb!

Warning: Spoilers
Dreben and Merrill mostly wrote a lot of "F-Troop" scripts, but their only effort at doing a "Get Smart" is fairly successful.

The episode begins with Smart being summoned to CONTROL where he is to pick up a suitcase and meet the Chief at the airport. Before he can go, he is attacked by two KAOS agents while a cop (former Berle joke writer Jack Denton) ignores the attack and focuses on writing Max a parking ticket. CONTROL is trying to find out what KAOS couriers are bringing in to the country. While 99 (dressed as a stewardess) distracts Nealis ("12 O'clock High" regular Lew Gallo) Max is supposed to go through his suitcase and examine everything in it. Unfortunately Max gets his tie caught in the suitcase, and Nealis catches him red handed. Fortunately thanks to agent 44 (Victor French) they manage to capture the KAOS courier who gives up key information in a funny scene where Max tries to trick him in the most obvious ways. The scene works thanks to Gallo and Adams. They strike just the right tone.

CONTROL discovers Nealis had part 127 of a bomb KAOS hopes to explode at Blue Mist Mountain, next to a US missile base. Max goes instead of Nealis and has to disarm the bomb before it goes off.

In addition to Gallo, Ted Knight shines in his brief stint as a KAOS operative (and actually comes back in a later episode despite the fact he's shot dead in this one!). Max gets a breakaway hunting suit, has some funny "last words" to 99 before he goes on the mission (Feldon's reactions really sell the scene while Platt gets a good laugh to button it), and his shoe phone gets quite a workout in this one.
