The Big Store

Warning: Spoilers
The late Stan Burns and his partner Mike Marmer were very big talents and contributed some of the best scripts to the series before moving on to other shows (Stan created "Lancelot Link, Secret Chimp"!). This time they create a story where KAOS is using a department store to get secret messages to their agents overseas. CONTROL is determined to find out how and stop them.

The Chief certainly sends in enough agents. Besides Max and K-13 (Fang), 99 is working as a perfume salesperson, Agent 53 is posing as a mannequin, Agent 25 is under a serving tray and even the store Santa Claus works for CONTROL! Max and the Chief have a nice phone booth scene as they try to speak covertly, and when Max and 99 are trapped in the store at night, they get in a shoot out using weapons taken from the toy department! The script is both funny and pointed as they prevail over KAOS agent Herr Bunny (John Hoyt, who played the Enterprise doctor in the first pilot). Like Blofeld and his cat in the James Bond series, Herr Bunny holds a bunny throughout and pets it.

One thing that might baffle anyone under 50 or so: the record listening booths in the store's music department!
