Fun spoof of '80s corporate greed
Tweekums19 June 2012
Warning: Spoilers
At the Planet Express AGI it becomes clear that the company finances are in a poor state; Fry and Zoidberg aren't too bothered though and leave the meeting to find some food. He finds himself in the in a support group for people who have been cryogenically frozen. Here he meets 'That Guy' a business man from the eighties. A vote at the meeting puts 'That Guy' on charge of Planet Express and he quickly starts fixing it '80s style... using business jargon, making flashy but meaningless adverts, giving Fry the job as his deputy then finally trying to sell off the company to its biggest rival; Mom. Not surprisingly the employees aren't happy until they learn that their shares are worth a fortune... until 'That Guy' drops dead and Fry starts talking... then the share value takes a nose dive. Of course by the end of the episode everything was back to normal; the crew were still working for Planet Express and Zoidberg was still broke!

When I first watched this episode I thought it was fairly week but watching it again I found myself laughing frequently; That Guy was a fun caricature of a greedy eighties wheeler-dealer; the kind of guy for whom money was everything... he was even too busy making money to have his fatal illness cured! As is often the case Zoidberg proved to be a good secondary character; providing laughs throughout as he attempted to get food... even trading his potentially valuable shares for a sandwich! Scruffy also provided some good laughs; the best of which was when he is seen reading 'National Pornographic' magazine. I'm glad I watched this again as it wasn't just better than I recalled it was a lot better.

This episode had some great one liners

Warning: Spoilers
"I'll be whatever I wanna do"

The plot is well-paced and engaging unlike some episodes earlier in the series (such as the convoluted 'Love & Rocket', or later, 'A Leela of Her Own'). "That Guy"- part Gordon Gecko from Wall Street, part Blake from Glengarry Glen Ross, is hilarious, right until his last breath! Especially enjoyable is the stock value of Planx during Fry's speech. I can safely say that this episode, with it's 83% positive rating on gotfuturama.com, is one of the best of the 4th series.

"Leela- Fry, we're worried about Planet Express. Fry- Don't you worry about Planet Express, let me worry about blank."

Bring on Bender's Big Score!
