When Kimble's photo appears on TV and on the front page of the newspaper, Janet and Sister Veronica must reassess their opinions of him, while Chuck sees it as the perfect opportunity for revenge. This second episode is a bit better....
planktonrules25 March 2017
This is the second episode in a two-parter. In part one, Richard Kimble (David Janssen) barely escapes from the cops and hops aboard a truck headed for who knows where. After he gets out of the truck, he happens upon Sister Veronica (Eileen Heckert) and her broken down heap. He helps her get her pickup working and ends up staying with the nun for some time...helping her on her journey. By the end of the episode, Kimble has come to realize that figuratively speak, she is also on the run.

The second episode begins with a couple punks on motorcycles harassing the traveling duo. Then the huge jerk-face (Albert Salmi) from the first episode came along just like I expected he would and Kimble is forced to deal with him and his stupid shenanigans once again. Along the way, he meets a nice lady who believes in him...and she turns out to be this jerk-face's sister-in-law!!

This episode is better than the first one because it is a bit more original. Plus, towards the end the car chase is REALLY exciting and shocked me. Still not among the program's best but worth seeing.

The doc needs Devine intervention
jsinger-5896926 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
When last we saw our intrepid fugitive, he was traveling across a mountain in a broken down car with a nun on the run, Sister Veronica. The doc had had a previous run in with the always menacing Albert Salmi, aka Johnny Salami. When part 2 of this one begins, Kimble and the Sister are set upon by a couple of motorcycle punks, Tony Baloney and Tommy Pastrami. Kimble unwisely confronts the punks and is about to be beaten if not killed by them when the sister shows up and slugs one of them and verbally humiliates them both until they run away. Anyways, the rattle trap needs a fuel pump and Kimble, whose skills as a mechanic are the only thing keeping the thing running since he got in it, comes into Salami's store to buy a pump. Salami, ever the bully, wants way more money for the pump than it's worth, so Kimble gives up his expensive watch for poker chips to enter Salami's card game. No matter how down and out the doc is, he always has enough to overdress for menial jobs, keep his nice watch and be impeccably well groomed. Kimble uses his world class poker skills to win the pot, and his superior fighting skills to thrash Salami after Salami starts a fight. Salami's widowed sister-in-law, the very attractive Ruta Lee, is instantly attracted to Kimble, as what attractive young woman isn't? Meanwhile, the sister is watching TV and sees the doc's wanted poster. Doc should really grow a beard or use some hillbilly teeth so he wouldn't be so easily recognized. She decides to continue traveling with him anyway, since they've been through so much together. Salami sees Kimble's picture in the newspaper and calls the sheriff. So the chase is on. Miraculously the heap blows a tire on the way down the mountain and comes to a stop. Salami and the sheriff hilariously crash into a disabled big truck, leaving them unable to tell anyone that the guy with the nun is Richard Kimble. Kimble and the sister make it down the mountain to Sacramento, which is the closest place the sister could find which offered vow renouncement, but she had a change of heart along the way and decides to stay in the church. She is the only character, aside from the main ones, who reprises their role later in the series.

Angels Travel On Lonely Roads - Part 2
jmarchese24 May 2014
In the opening act of part 2, Kimble and the Sister encounter a couple of nature's undesirables while on their journey west through the mountains. The scene is important within the context of the main story and is a memorable one for Eileen Heckart fans.

The righteous Lieutenant Tim Craig goes way out of his territory and offers Sheriff Morris his services. He thinks he knows how Kimble operates and freely admits luck played a role in the Lincoln City escape.

As fate would have it, the old truck runs into mechanical trouble which requires cash to rectify. And as fate would have it Kimble runs into antagonist Salmi in his quest to repair the truck.

Again Divine Providence versus free will; you be the judge! Fortunately Mrs. Loring (played by Ruta Lee,) is Salmi's sister-in-law. She's sympathetic to Kimble and offers him a way to earn a few dollars. While staying overnight at Mrs. Loring's place, Sister Veronica learns the shocking truth about her traveling companion. Suspense ensues as both Sheriff Morris and Lieutenent Craig are close by. Albert Salmi smells a rat but cannot figure it out. Because of his crooked and weak souled nature however, he finally uncovers the truth.

More suspense follows and the story's theme Divine Providence rears it's beautiful head two more times !

Watching the 2 parter "Angels Travel On Lonely Roads" will make anyone think twice about Divine Providence versus free will.

Part 2
Christopher3708 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I love both parts of this story, but I think Part 2 is better because it focuses more on drama than the comedy that's seen in Part one. I do love comedy, especially the comedy shown in Part one, but I think this show does drama so well that I prefer that over the comedy.

A new character is introduced in this chapter. Janet Loring, the sister in law of that mean bully Chuck, and also a widow of 2 years, played wonderfully by the beautiful Ruta Lee.

She gives Kimble and Sister Veronica room and board at her property in exchange for handyman work from Kimble. She's a lonely woman who took her husband's death pretty hard and reaches out to Kimble for comfort.

When she bares her soul to him about her life and her feelings after her husband's death it's incredibly poignant and I felt a lot of sympathy for her.

She's almost desperate when she asks Kimble to stay on as her handyman but not in a crazy desperate way but more of a quiet desperation. You can see the sadness and loneliness in her eyes and you want Kimble to accept the offer, or her plea to him rather, and stay there with her forever, but that's obviously impossible for him to do.

When he turns her offer down the next morning, she keeps her composure but you can see she's devastated inside. I really felt for her and I made up my own ending that after Kimble & Sister Veronica left, a nice lonely widower visited her lodge and she found someone to spend her life with and lived happily ever after with him. Hey, why not? I think she deserved it.

My favorite part of the episode was the final scene when Kimble and Sister Veronica parted in front of the church. Each has received something priceless from the other and when Sister Veronica needed to know that she made a difference to Kimble, I loved his heartfelt reply to her.....I don't know the exact quote, but he told her that because of her, a part of him came up for air. I loved how he said that and also loved the look on Veronica's face when she realized she made a difference and this helped to restore her faith.

I think the connection he made with Veronica was the most important one of the series. The two developed a genuine love and respect for each other and when Veronica walks into the church and Kimble stands there watching her go in, you can see he was thankful to have met her and will miss her. I think that final scene between them as they parted was so well done and I credit that to both the actors because I feel they played their parts here to perfection.

This is definitely my second favorite episode of the entire series (both parts I count as one whole episode) right after "Never Wave Goodbye" which is coincidentally another two part episode and my absolute favorite of the series.

And as with my made up ending of Janet Loring mentioned above, I also have my own Epilogue for this one as well.....Years later, after Kimble finally stopped running, he went back to Santa Barbara to Karen Christian and they got married in Sister Veronica's church in Sacramento and all lived long and happy lives together. Again....why not? :) I'd like to end this review by sharing that Sister Veronica's return in season four doesn't exist at all for me. I have come to the conclusion that the entire season four of The Fugitive was just a very bad dream of Kimble's and he actually stopped running at the end of season three, and Sister Veronica never met the sad fate that the cruel, heartless writers gave her in "The Breaking of the Habit". Can you tell by now i'm an eternal optimist? :)

As I had wrote in previous review of the first-half of this story Dr. Kimble and Sister Veronica drive to Sacramento through back roads due the Lincoln's Sheriff Craig has intention to get all recognition of the press for arrest the so-wanted criminal Dr. Richard Kimble, however the duo already pass the city limits, still the stubborn Sheriff pursuit the fame crossing the border in order to keep up in the neck of Dr. Kimble with proper acquiescence of the Sheriff Morris (Sandy Kenyon) that was already of readiness to catch the fugitive.

Firstly they have face two young motorcycles drunkard on importunity at road, well suitable slapped by the angry Nun not before given them a good lecture how the youngest must act, nonetheless once more the old Ford Truck broken, this turn a gas pump, leaving the car downhill they reach in a lodger-store-gas station where Chuck (Albert Salmi) works to your sister in law Mrs. Janet Loring (Ruta Lee), Kimble asking for a gas pump receiving a over price for this, then the way is enters in a poker game, even winning honestly the bad loser Chuck goes to fight, getting beaten up, Mrs. Janet arrives and sympathizes with Kimble, offering to him a work for a while, he decides goes on with the sister.

Meanwhile the Sheriff made arrangements to capture Kimble at road, a sudden accident takes over near, it will be the key to Sister Veronica decides what got do when reach at her final destination at Sacramento, the final part seemingly is the same level at final, although more seriously due the hard decision-making to do!!
