A Spell of Freddy
Hitchcoc29 October 2019
When Freddy makes it to the national finals of the Scripps spelling bee, he wins. But because Frasier mouthed the words in the audience, he is disqualified. This leads to a lesson in standing up for ones self and recognizing what is important. The kid who plays Freddy continues to grate on me.

Niles Shines

All the quipping and punning are hilarious in this sendup of folks who take academic competition too seriously. And Niles is in top neurotic form. This episode makes me laugh as much as The Ski Lodge. Frasier's son Freddie is in town for a Spelling Bee and is coached by his Uncle Niles, who froze and therefore blew his own championship chances years before. A complication prevents Freddie from winning the championship that should be his, and the fallout results in the final insult from Freddie's rival's father that Freddie will have to settle for a state college. Niles is the anti-hero and hero here, leading to a happy ending for the Cranes.

War of the Words

This is very much a Series eight style episode. By that I mean. It has a decent premise that really never gets built upon or fully developed.

It leads to the characters acting very out of character, and ends up seeing the show end up falling into the sort of low brow humour that during the glory days of series 1-7 would never have been allowed to creep in.

It's a shame, because this episode did have promise, and should have delivered an awful lot more.

It's disapointing to see a show as good as 'Frasier' fall fowl of such lazy humour. It really has become a hit and miss affair in terms of quality.
