This episode marks the only on-screen appearance of Duke's, Martin's favorite bar. In later episodes, Martin eventually finds a new hangout at McGinty's.
The scene card "Where Nobody Knows Their Names" is a reference to "Where Everybody Knows Your Name," the theme song of the TV show "Cheers," in which the Frasier Crane character is first introduced. (The song was composed by Gary Portnoy and Judy Hart Angelo in 1982.)
This episode is another example of a large set (Duke's) taking up extra space In the studio other than the usual home, office or cafe. This forces scenes at Nervosa to be shot strictly in the small back area by the bookshelves. The previous episode, "Flour Child", had to do the same thing to accommodate the hospital sets.
Daphne, who's own family consists of eleven seriously dysfunctional members, scolds Niles and Frasier that she never knew a family that worked so hard at being unhappy together.
At the end of the episode, Niles talks about why it's not ok to tear down Duke's. He says "Is it really ok? I think not! Because today it's Duke's. But tomorrow, it's Moe's." A possible reference to Moe's Tavern from The Simpsons. Kelsey Grammer has a recurring role as "Sideshow Bob" on The Simpsons.
