Dr. Laura Redux
Hitchcoc17 October 2019
Christine Baranski plays an abrasive radio psychologist who adds extra time after Frasier's show. She is ugly and mean and calls people names and abuses their decisions. Of course, she is immediately loved by the viewers who like confrontation and cheap thrills. It is a commentary on a real radio personality who used some of the same methods.

Hysterical

Does anyone remember Dr. Laura Schlesinger? This episode basically rips her a new one and I love it for that. Christine Baranski is perfect as "Dr. Nora," who sucks up to Frasier in order to get her own radio show at KACL and then shocks him by revealing herself to be a crazy, judgemental wannabe psychologist whose degree turns out to entitle her to be nothing more than a gym teacher. Of course, she clashes with Frasier and hilarity ensues. The guest calls on this one are great too. Poor Jenny from Tacoma (voiced by Gillian Anderson). Dr. Nora called her a whore for living with her boyfriend. Jenny's response: "But I'm not a whore, I'm a flight attendant." Dr. Nora's comeback: "And you think there's no overlap?" Also, watch for Piper Laurie as Nora's mother out for revenge. She totally brings back the scary mom persona from Carrie.

"JuliKell?" Is that you, Dr. Laura?
imdb-824-90792621 August 2010
This episode is an excellent look behind the scenes of real radio, much more so than your average episode of "Frasier". Piper Laurie's performance as Dr. Nora's mother, while superb, leaves a dark note when one considers that the real Dr. Laura's mother died a few years later, in 2002, and was found decomposing on the floor of her apartment a short distance from Laura Schessinger's radio studio, where he body had lain for many weeks unnoticed.

I guess Dr. Laura's admonition:

"God's commandment of honoring parents is basically the message that parents are a conduit of God. Any profanity or harm to the parent is as if we've profaned God."

"The commandment to honor parents was given to ensure that the elderly, although they may not feel wanted by family or society, are still given their appropriate reward."

"We honor parents today by making sure they are taken care of when they can no longer care for themselves."

"We honor parents by keeping them connected to family."

... from her 1994 book, "The 10 Commandments: The Significance of God's Laws in Everyday Life," only applies to people other than Dr. Laura.

For what it's worth, this episode is not shown in re-runs, because Dr. Laura Schlessinnnnnnnnnnnger (yes, 11 "n"s) was so ticked off at this parody of her that she threatened to sue the producers, and had it pulled from syndication.

So much for her real belief in free speech.

I suspect that "JulieKell" is either an employee of or cult follower of the esteemed Dr. N-word.

The one bad episode - It 's like having to listen to the writer complain and whine for 30 minutes
supermish7 January 2013
This is the one and only episode of Frasier I dislike. The story is a thinly disguised hate attack against an LA radio personality. Obviously, the writer had some personal issue with the celebrity he is trashing, but I don't want to have to hear about that in (what is normally) a comedy show.

Watching this episode feels like being stuck on the phone with a negative, gossipy, complainer "frenemy." I think this writer should deal with his problems on his own - in his personal life - and not put them on a COMEDY show for all to have to experience his anger and hatred.

OK Mr. Writer, so you don't like "Dr. Nora." We don't care and we don't want to have to watch you rant about it on a show that was supposed to be ENTERTAINMENT.

Overall, I LOVE every other episode of Frasier! The actors are some of the most talented out there. I think the series is one of the best sitcoms ever made. Nevertheless, I suggest you skip this episode.

Hatred On Icd

As a long standing fan of David Angell. Peter Kasey and David Lee I was embarrassed for each of them with this episode. Hollywood collectively hated Dr. Laura Schlessinger as they do most every voice of morality. Subsequently they assault that which they deplore and assume the country agrees with them and their equally disturbed and dysfunctional circle of friends. Depravity loves company and it cannot abide anyone that works to change the human condition by rebuking that which they covet.

I don't see much of David Angell's hand in this episode as it reeks of self righteousness and insult. However, Kasey and Lee have proudly left their fingerprints everywhere on this episode. They embarrassed themselves attempting to decrying what they believed to be Dr. Schlessinger's being self-righteous and insulting by being self-righteous and insulting. They served only to personify Hollywood's hypocrisy and outrageous hatred for anyone with a thought outside their own narrow perspective. Shameful.

I'd have never watched FRASIER again ...
JulieKelleher5723 January 2008
... If this had been the first episode I saw. If I didn't know any better, I'd have thought this episode was from the last season, and FRASIER was gasping for air.

I wish I could have given it a negative rating.

Waaaay over-the-top performances, even for FRASIER.

Predictable and tiresome "Oooooh, we're so tolerant and everyone else is a hypocrite" left coast pablum.

This goes in the "don't bother watching" bin along with the episodes that feature those tiresome CHEERS losers.

I guess such a great show has to have its share of awful episodes. And, as an afterthought, I suppose the better the show, the more atrocious those awful episodes.
