Yikes! Scared Sober should be the title of this episode!...
... because who else but Lawrence Tierney is one of the bad guys in this episode of a show I had never even heard of until it appeared on youtube. And wow, has he lost his looks in just six years when he was still a hunk and appeared in "The Female Jungle" in 1955. If you ever want to know how the angry Adonis in "Dillinger" turned into a Tor Johnson look alike in "Reservoir Dogs", this episode is a pretty good halfway-point. All that heavy drinking had taken a toll.
Before Hawaii Five-O there was this little show that ran for a couple of seasons about a pair of journalists operating out of Hawaii. Here they try to solve the mystery of why a beautiful singer (Julie London) is waitressing and refusing jobs to perform before an audience. Of course Tierney's character - a mobster who was once London's promoter and lover - is behind her refusals and her fear.
What's interesting is that Felix E. Feist, who directed Tierney in "The Devil Thumbs a Ride"in 1947 is also directing this episode. There has to be a story there.
