Along came a spider

Warning: Spoilers
Having left Earth Moya is once again entering Tormented Space; in order to navigate the area they must buy charts off local traders; having acquired the charts they are offered something else... a woman, Talikaa, who the traders claim to have 'enjoyed' enough. Chiana is shocked and insists that they will take her so that she may be free. It isn't long before Talikaa starts to have an effect on Moya's crew. At first their emotions seem exaggerated then each of them loses their strongest emotion; Crichton loses his will to go on, D'Argo loses his anger, Rygel loses his greed and Chiana loses her sex drive. If that wasn't bad enough Rygel has ripped off the traders leading them to fear reprisals. When the traders return they are no threat though; they are all dying; a recording found on board explains that they are dealing with a Wolaxian arachnid; a creature that harvest its victims emotions and stores them in energy orbs; if the orbs aren't opened near the victim that person is destined to die... the crew will have to find where Talikaa stored them quickly if they are to survive.

This episode got off to a good start making it look as though the traders would be the main threat; it didn't take too long to show that the real threat was Talikaa though. Paula Arundell did a fine job in the role and her scene with Gigi Edgeley's Chiana bordered on erotic! Talikaa made a good threat, the way we were shown things as she saw them gave her seem more ominous but not half as much as what she did to Sikozu did... it is a good job she can reattach severed limbs! It was fun seeing the main characters trying to function without their driving emotion and Talikaa's ultimate fate was pretty funny. While this is basically a stand-alone episode the concluding scene hints at things to come when we learn that Scorpius has been monitoring the comms.
