Aboard a different Leviathan
Tweekums5 September 2012
Warning: Spoilers
This episode opens quite a while after the end of season three; Crichton has been rescued by another Leviathan, called Elack; this one is much older than Moya though and she has come to that sacred area of space to die. He continues to work on his wormhole research until another ship crashes into Elack; on board is an alien woman called Sikozu who warns that another group of aliens, known as Grudeks, are approaching with the intention of killing everybody aboard so that they can harvest toubray tissue from Elack; apparently this tissue is a delicacy amongst these people and that from old Leviathans is the best. When the Grudeks arrive they release a creature to hunt down any survivors on board. While John and Sikozu are hiding Chiana and Rygel return... alerting the Grudeks to John's location as they call him! As they work to overcome the Grudeks they must also determine whether Sikozu can be trusted; more than once she is caught dealing with them and she is caught with Scarran currency; she has explanations but they aren't the most plausible and it is likely that she will switch sides if it is to her benefit.

While all this is going on John is having visions of himself and a pregnant Aeryn on a beach. We also learn a little bit about what has happened to Chiana and Rygel since the last series; Chiana's visions have increased and after each one she now suffers headaches that are literally blinding.

This was a good start to the fourth season; I particularly liked the fact that Moya's crew is still scattered so we have no idea what has happened to many of them. Raelee Hill, who plays Sikozu, makes an interesting addition to the cast; her ability to adjust her gravity centre and walk up walls and reattached severed body parts is interesting but it is the fact that she appears to change allegiances so easily that is likely to make her more interesting in future. There is a good amount of action, including two ships crashing into Elack and a great scene where Chiana uses her new ability to determine how to defeat the Grudeks. This was a promising series opener and I'm intrigued as to what will happen next; Scorpius doesn't appear to be the threat he was so hopefully new villains will take the lead.
