The Nebari come for Chiana
Tweekums24 June 2012
Warning: Spoilers
When Aeryn and Rygel return to Moya they are surprisingly mellow... because they have had a run in with a pair of wounded Nebari who subjected them to a form of mind cleansing which makes them rather obedient. The Nebari are to take Chiana to a nearby base where they hope to use Chiana to capture her brother who is involved in the resistance. Pilot is given a control collar as he is immune to the mind cleansing procedure and each of the others, apart from Chiana, is cleansed in turn. We don't see what it involves until the procedure it performed on Crichton... it is not pleasant to say the least; his eyes are held wide open then one of his eyeballs is pulled out and a device is attached to his optic nerve. He begins acting like a hippy but soon it becomes apparent that the process didn't work on him because of the presence of 'Harvey'. He continues to pretend it works and tells Pilot and Chiana. He learns that Rygel is also now free of the cleansing due to his high metabolic rate; they will have to work together to defeat the Nebari before they get to their base.

This was another quality episode; it was great to see more of the Nebari and in so doing learn more about Chiana's past. Of course it helps that Chiana is probably my favourite character; largely because Gigi Edgley does such a good job in the role. The two 'guest Nebari', played by Skye Wansey and Malcolm Kennard were also good characters; it is a pity we don't see more of the Nebari as they are one of the more interesting races encountered so far; I certainly prefer them to the Scarrans. Ben Browder's performance as Crichton was a lot of fun as he acted like a hippy while pretending to be under the influence of the Nebari cleansing. The way they prevail against the Nebari was both exciting and impressive; I won't spoil it with exact details though!

I was surprised to see that this episode only has a '12' certificate as the 'cleansing scene' where John has his eyeball pulled out disturbed me far more than anything in the '18' certificate episode 'Home on the Remains'... be prepared to squirm a bit in that scene!
