Ray is the MVP in this episode

Warning: Spoilers
Amy's parents - Hank & Pat - are doing everything they can to break her and Robert up. In this episode, the McDougalls visit Amy during brunch, and at the same time, Frank and Marie turn up. And in typical Barone style, chaos ensues.

As Ray and Debra arrive, Ray does everything to stop Debra getting involved in Robert and Amy's relationship, because as Ray points out, "it's not for us to work out".

Matters are further complicated when Amy's creepy brother Peter turns up and reveals that Hank & Pat want to take her back to Pennsylvania. This breaks Amy's heart. But it doesn't end there: now it's the Barone's vs McDougalls (or more so - Frank vs Hank).

After much pushing, Debra tries to bring the families together, despite Ray's protests to stay out of it, and let Robert and Amy be. Finally the two soon-to-be in-laws come to blows after an attempt to pray.

Snapping at everyone at all the drama, Ray storms off and Peter follows. Both men don't see eye to eye with Peter trying to break the engaged couple up, while Ray tells everyone to stay out of it. In the end, Amy and Robert go out and leave everyone to their own devices. Ray smugly struts the room as everyone looks on. Ray is the MVP in this episode.

This episode is probably Ray at his most noble. While he avoids conflict in every episode, in this episode, Ray is right - don't get involved. And proves that love is all you need.

Don't let the in laws of your loved one dissuade you from getting married.

When you and your loved one are planning on getting married and the in laws of your loved one don't approve of you and your family. The one thing that you can't allow to happen and that is the in laws dissuade you and your loved one from getting married. They may not like it, but you and your loved one have the right to get married.

Amy's parents meet Frank and Marie
PudgyPandaMan29 August 2008
Warning: Spoilers
This episode is from Season 7 of "Everybody Loves Raymmond" and originally aired in February 2003. Amy and Robert are engaged and she has invited Frank and Marie over to her apartment for brunch. Before Frank and Marie arrive, Amy's parents show up at her doorstep, uninvited. Amy is a little stunned, and then Robert comes waltzing in from the bedroom in just his underwear. Amy's parents are extremely religious and are shocked. Amy & Robert try to talk their way out of it, but only make matters worse.

Meanwhile, Frank and Marie show up. Marie tries to make nice, but Amy's parents are rude and offensive towards the Barones. Then Ray & Debra show up. Ray tried to get Debra to leave and not get involved. But Debra steps in, thinking she can help Amy by trying to get the families to get along. It only makes things worse. Amy storms off to her bedroom. Then it dissolves into a bizarre group prayer with everyone trying to participate. Then Peter, Amy's brother, tries to enlist Ray's help in the hallway to agree to break up Robert & Amy. Ray sees how demented Peter is and won't go along. He goes to Amy's bedroom door and tells her to forgot the families and that her Robert are meant to be together. She finally comes out and her and Robert leave to go out for brunch, leaving the rest of the family.

I didn't like how this episode made fun of praying and was quite disrespectful and irreverent. It paints Christians as being fanatics and close-minded idiots. There are some funny moments, especially the muffin episode where Frank takes one from Marie and stuffs it in his pants. She proceeds to chase him around the living room and finally smashes it to crumbs in his pocket. But I just find the rest of the set-up with Amy's parents to be demeaning of Christians.
