Lois and Warren may be pretentious and fairly out of touch with the everyday world of most but Frank and Marie are the true snobs. They stand in judgment and mock every aspect of Lois and Warrens life, from their travels, hobbies, personal tastes and even grammar! Their encounter in this episode and many down the road are hilarious because it really widens the gap on their societal differences. The restaurant scene is so funny. You have the uncouth manners displayed by the Barone elders and Roberts bizarre and fearful aversion to fine dining wait staff. "Robert, you're a police officer. You outrank the waiters." Of course, Raymond ends up in the dog house all around because he tries to scold his parents and defend Debra's parents to diffuse the embarrassing scene.
What I adore about Lois and Warren; they may be pretentious but it's as though they don't realize it, as though it's inherent behavior. They are otherwise very nice, loving and accepting people. They do not stand in judgment of the Barones and were beloved characters to me because of that. I adored the wonderful Robert Culp and Katherine Helmond. They were a perfect casting choice.
