- Captain Jonathan Archer: A farm?
- Sub-Commander T'Pol: It's remote and sparsely populated. If you're exposed, there's a reduced risk of cultural contamination.
- Captain Jonathan Archer: This must be why aliens are always landing in cornfields.
- Dr. Phlox: Isn't it extraordinary? Thousands of sentient species in our little corner of the cosmos, each one discovering science in their own unique way.
- [Archer is being briefed by T'Pol on several phenomena the crew has detected, all of which seem rather uninteresting]
- Commander Charles 'Trip' Tucker III: There is one other thing might be worth swinging by to take a look: a Minshara class planet, about four and a half light years away.
- Captain Jonathan Archer: Any life signs?
- Commander Charles 'Trip' Tucker III: Only about 500 million.
- [Archer laughs in disbelief]
- Commander Charles 'Trip' Tucker III: If our scans are right, it looks like there's a whole civilization down there.
- [all Humans laugh with excitement]
- Captain Jonathan Archer: [to T'Pol] You might have put that on the top of the list!
- Captain Jonathan Archer: Seventy-eight light years to get here and our first act is breaking and entering.
- Commander Charles 'Trip' Tucker III: Maybe you don't have to mention this part in your log.
- [Archer has introduced T'Pol to Riann]
- Riann: You two are from the same province?
- Captain Jonathan Archer: Not exactly.
- Riann: Must be difficult to make friends when you keep so much to yourself.
- Captain Jonathan Archer: I'm sorry, I don't mean to be evasive.
- Riann: Yes, you do.
- Sub-Commander T'Pol: The longer you remain, the more you risk cultural contamination.
- Captain Jonathan Archer: These people are suffering from something a lot worse than cultural contamination. We've got to find out what it is.
- Garos: You're not from this province, are you?
- Captain Jonathan Archer: [scanning Garos] No. And neither are you. Your DNA doesn't match any other life form on this planet.
- [Garos takes out a scanning device of his own to check out Archer]
- Garos: Nor does yours.
- Captain Jonathan Archer: We're trying to help these people. What you're doing here is contaminating their water supply.
- Garos: There are 500 million Akaali on this planet. A few thousand won't be missed.
- [last lines]
- Riann: Where's your starship headed now?
- Captain Jonathan Archer: There're lots of inhabited planets to see. But I doubt many'll be this memorable.
- [he kisses her]
- Riann: Is your translator broken again?
- Captain Jonathan Archer: I'm sorry? I... don't understand a word you're saying.
- [they kiss again]
- Captain Archer: If you enjoy the simple life so much, why do you have an antimatter reactor in your basement?
- Captain Jonathan Archer: Let's try not to shoot anyone else while we're here, okay?
- Sub-Commander T'Pol: I'll try.
- [after T'Pol has stunned Riann]
- Riann: Is there anything else you'd like to tell me, Jon?
- [after finding out about Archer and the Malurian being aliens to her homeworld]
