In the World o' Stuff, Eerie-ites are discussing the upcoming Harvest King festival which occurs every 13 years and coincides with sightings of the Eerie Wolf. The father and mother of the last Harvest King winner (1979) are seen sitting in a booth, and are dressed exactly like the couple in Grant Wood's iconic 1930 painting "American Gothic", complete with pitchfork.
Mr. Chaney is named after Lon Chaney Jr., who played the werewolf Larry Talbot in The Wolf Man (1941), Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man (1943), House of Frankenstein (1944), House of Dracula (1945) and Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein (1948). Dash X also refers to "those old 'Wolf Man' flicks."
Dash-X goes to the library to find out what he can about the Eerie Wolf, which surfaces every 13 years when the Harvest King is selected. As he peruses back issues of the Eerie Examiner, we see headlines such as CHISEL WINS MAYORAL LANDSLIDE (1992 - Winston Chisel is the mayor of Eerie at the time of the story); DISCO CRAZE SWEEPS INDIANA (1979); PROHIBITION: WHY WE LOVE IT (1927).
As the scene begins where Dash-X is in the library researching the legendary Eerie Wolf, the camera pans across a bookshelf while Marshall (as Narrator) explains what's going on. Apparently everything on the shelf is an actual, published book, and has some relationship to the show's theme: books by Thomas Wolfe and Virginia Woolf; titles such as "The Call of the Wolf" and "Sea Wolf" (Jack London), "Don Coyote" (Dayton Hyde), and "Of Wolves and Men" (Barry Lopez).
