The Cadillac that Doug's father left behind is a 1959 Series 62 convertible.
This episode - in which Mark Greene and Doug Ross go on a road trip following the death of Doug's father - is the first in the series to be filmed completely away from the ER unit.
The photo of Doug Ross as a high school basketball player that was found in his late father's room is an actual picture of George Clooney as a basketball player at Augusta High School in Kentucky. This also ties in with Doug's statement later in this episode that he lived in Kentucky for some of his childhood.
The title card doesn't simply fade away here as it does on all the other episodes. Instead it scrolls offscreen to the right.
Captain David Greene, played by John Cullum, chain-smoked Lucky Strikes. On "Mad Men," John Cullum played Lee Garner Sr., the CEO of Lucky Strike.
