Blake & Alexis in Italy

I watched Season 2's 'The Psychiatrist' on Pop today. I haven't seen these episodes since they were first run in the 80s when I was a kid. I remembered the scene with Blake smearing the lotion on Alexis' shoulders and upper arms, with the paparazzi (hired by Alexis) snapping pictures from a tree. This was one of the more classic moments of season 2.

Though it makes for good drama, some of the plotting doesn't ring true. First, if Alexis and Blake had an acrimonious divorce and she had testified against him in his recent murder trial, why would he even trust her to set up this meeting with Rashid? I doubt a man of Blake's intelligence and business sense would listen to a plan by an ex-wife (who up until now has no experience in business), even if she is the mother of his children. Also, Blake has a lot of arrogance, and even if Alexis could be useful, he would no doubt think his ideas were better than hers.

One thing I really did like in this episode is that when she tells him that Rashid left the villa at their disposal for a few more days, and he has already kissed her, he says it's a tempting offer. And he doesn't come right out and turn her down. In later seasons, they made Blake less receptive to Alexis and her charms, and a spurned Alexis more hostile towards Blake. But here, in this episode, we see evidence that they once loved each other and still had feelings for each other. I think this is a more realistic way to show a divorced couple, not the battle of the bitter exes it sometimes became on this show.

At any rate, since Blake doesn't turn Alexis down in this episode, it is left open to interpretation whether or not he stayed on a bit longer with her at the villa-- or even if just for one night, he resumed a sexual relationship with her.
