A followup to "The Big Neighbor".
planktonrules22 November 2009
In many ways, this episode from season 3 is like a followup to Season 2, Episode 5: "The Big Neighbor". In "The Big Neighbor", Joe goes to Bill's house on an off day to watch a football game. And, because of constant interruptions from neighbors, they never really got to see much of the game. In this episode, Joe invites the Gannons to his apartment for a cookout with his girlfriend. But, like this previous episode, again and again things seem to conspire to ruin the evening--things at work, Friday's lady friend coming late and problems with the neighbors. It just goes to show you that a cop's job is never done! It's all very mundane but at least gives you an idea of what life is like if you work for the police department. Not a must-see, but an example of the sorts of unusual episodes that began to appear more and more frequently following the first season.

Completely idiotic episode where these 2 clowns act powerless & once again perpetrate crime!
imdb-2528827 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Like contemporary cops, these 2 don't do much police work at all: when a woman knocks on Friday's apartment door for help quiet down a party above her apartment, he acts powerless instead of going over there and telling them to quiet down or they'll be arrested for disturbing the peace. For a cop to refuse to help a victim of someone else's willful noise pollution is unconscionable: people have lives and states-of-mind or health conditions that require them to have peace and quiet: migraines, illnesses, inability to cope with noise, are elderly and keep an early-to-bed schedule, or even have jobs that cause them to go to sleep very early, so they can be up at the crack of dawn. In fact, there are no hours for disturbing the peace: if someone is unreasonably loud, they can be cited and/or arrested, even in the middle of the afternoon. One complaint is enough!

What Friday ought to have done as a cop is ask the party-neighbor if he was paying the lady below him's rent. When he replied "no", he should have demanded that said loud neighbor removed the loud noise from HER apartment, since he does not pay to thus invade her private space with his noise, it is therefore unlawful appropriation of another's space. He further should have informed said toxic, narcissistic and abusive neighbor that he had the option to rent a ballroom from the city to carry his partying. Or buy himself a house where no one lives below him. An apartment complex is no place to hold a party, night or day. You have the right to play your music at a reasonable volume, you're right there, no need to disturb the neighbors. If you enjoy blasting music, then do it with headphones!

Instead, the loud neighbor brings the party to weak, dumb "cop" Friday's apartment, and that's ok with him because the idiot writers wrote in that the disturbed lady just was lonely and sore that she wasn't the one partying. Now that she was, she was happy. Insane! This discredits the large part of the population that don't want any bad neighbors' noise in their homes. I do hope that all those who read this and are loud neighbors in apartments, all of you who disagree and press "no", imagine yourself now getting in a car accident, and the doctor or nurse who attends to you botches up your surgery and permanently disables you (or worse!) due to having had to be up at 3:00 AM to work the E. R. and being on zero sleep due to such a loud neighbor.

Next, imagine vividly that you now lose your job, and have to live in pain the rest of your days in a tiny apartment under and behind two such loud neighbors! Inconsiderate, entitled fools never learn unless it directly affects them! I hate this episode so much and if you can't see my rating it's 1/10 stars. Show is going downhill fast as more and more these coppers repeatedly refuse to help victims of crime. I didn't know they sided with perps as early as 1967! And if you don't think that's a crime, again, we'll see how you feel when you meet such a fate from someone who had no sleep because of such neighbor. Perhaps that'll be your pilot crashing your fated plane or the Mac truck driver who falls asleep at the wheel and crosses the divider lane at full speed, just when you are on his careening path! Inconsiderate fools really never think about consequences for others' lives, as long as they are the ones bullying, annoying and get their stupid pleasures. You'll soon sing another tune when it affects YOUR life directly...
