The gown Eva Longoria wore to mow the lawn was loaned to Philadelphia high schooler Melissa Saunders to wear to her senior prom when she asked for photos of it so she could locate a similar outfit; it still had grass clippings on it.
Shooting the pilot took 13 days.
The envelope that Mary Alice's blackmail note came in says Secretsville, USA instead of Fairview.
The first scene filmed was the whole Van De Kamp family at the diner. The last scene filmed for the pilot was Susan setting Edie's house on fire.
When Edie Britt is first introduced, as both her and Susan are bringing "Welcome to the Neighborhood" gifts for Mike, Mary Alice's voiceover says "Susan had met the enemy, and she was a slut." Mike then asks Edie what was in the casserole she brought him, and Edie replies "sausage puttanesca". Puttanesca loosely translated means "in the style of the whore". The story behind puttanesca sauce is that it was made by the "working ladies" in Italy to lure customers with its aroma and/or for them to wait their turn at the brothel. Very appropriate dish for Edie to bring, and great job by the writers for sneaking in the joke!
