It's obvious that when Julia Sugarbaker showed a soft spot, that was more of Dixie Carter coming through because her sincerity is so real and the tenderness she shows comes from her real emotions. With real life husband Hal Holbrook playing Julia's boyfriend Reese once again, Carter is playing a scenario that in real life she wanted to avoid going through.

Reese is having symptoms of a heart attack after arm wrestling with old college pal Jack Bannon and at the hospital, Julia reveals this is exactly the same scenario that she had to go through when her husband Payne died. She gives up sleep and time at work to be with him, and it's obvious that her love becomes stronger going through this crisis than it was before.

The minor subplot involves the women dealing with the death of a client and Mary Jo dealing with having to read the last statement of the late woman which is the scathing review of her marriage to a cheating husband. the scene is funny but pales in comparison to the situation with Reese. Some other amusing moments include Charlene's shock over the fact that certain young people don't know famous celebrities, making the very true prediction that one day these cultural icons will be forgotten, even within their own life, and indeed some of them have. As far as Jack bannon, he is not one of my favorite guest stars on the show, but fortunately his on-screen time is limited. Still it's an excellent episode that explains the power of Julia and Reese's relationship and a heart that is still full of the memory of a late husband.
