One of the reasons for muddling through the rest

The common criticisms of this series are true. There are way too many complicated words and phrases. There is too much teen angst. The writers do too much contortion to keep the romantic seesaws going among the big three. So why do I watch this show? Better yet, why on nearly the 20th anniversary of it's farewell, so I watch it again?

This episode is one reason. There are so many good sentimental moments in this episode. My crush on Joey Potter (not Katie Holmes) goes on. The very last scene is just perfect. This time, it's not one or the other character blind-sided, it's both in one shot.

I'm still very unhappy that two episodes ago we bid a hopefully temporary farewell to Andie. (My memories of details are vague after 20 years. Only certain things stand out and many of them are only triggered just before they happen again in rewatching.) Gretchen is a great story arc, but Andie was the true star of the ongoing story.

Poor Jen. Why is she the character who has more misfortune even than Andie? But this is a good episode for her.

I wish I had been counting how many kisses Katie Holmes has in this series. For at least two seasons, she has had more than one per episode and Joey's history includes more than one man. And many of these kisses are full body kisses. Yet miraculously, Joey is still a you-know-what. No other character even comes close and I struggle to recall anyone on similar shoes who is so consistent in this.
