ruining a main character

Melodramatic disaster movie scenes...

Yeah, I saw this stuff years ago back when it was new. Looking at it today, I can just see how ludicrous it is. The fiercely strong-willed Pamela reduced to being a psychotic wreck because... because she cannot have a baby (actually, she can, there's the risk of more miscarriages...). Somebody would contemplate jumping off a building because of this...? Yeah, she'd rather splat on the sidewalk than risk a possible miscarriage...! Melodramatic junk which turns the glorious heroine of Season 1 into laughing stock. Who can take the character seriously after this?

Another thing. The wife of a senator dramatically rescued from rooftop. This is, apparently, not newsworthy. The whole of Dallas were the boondocks during the early Eighties of course. Which is why Rebecca and Cliff do not hear about it. Not on TV, not from phone calls. Miss Ellie phones Rebecca long afterwards to inform her. Hell, the newspaper hounds would have been hammering at every door to get the background story.

And Bobby would sit there in his office dictating? Hell, major clue number one: Pamela's car is still there. She's in the building. Go search the bloody building! At the very least, the poor dear's worth it. Looks like a movie star. You know, that girl in VIGILANTE FORCE, the spunky redhead...?

Spunky redhead. Underline that.

What a stupid turn of events.

And don't think the script will ever recover.

Summed up: the good old days, build-up to shooting J.R. Season 4 then is a bit down, still holds promise. Season 5 sees the downward plummet.

Lucy is getting blowsy to the extreme. It's been going that way with "Miss Young Dallas" for a long time already, but that kitchen scene with Miss Ellie is the last straw. Stay out of the kitchen, Charlene!

I haven't watched the whole thing yet. I've forgotten this. All I know is that Victoria Principal HAD SO MUCH MORE POTENTIAL than this stupid stupid corny corny corny turn.

From EARTHQUAKE to... Jumper? N O !!!

JR buys the universe

Warning: Spoilers
The other reviewers mention how silly they make Pam look in this episode , so I won't rehash that.

But J. R. plans to buy every oil producers output in Texas! You would think that would take more money than one Independent company could manage to come up with wouldn't you? In the past, there have been limits on how much JR could commit to projects and he had to be part of a cartel to finance them. But now he's as rich as a Middle East sultan and can just write a check to buy all the oil in Texas.

Anyway, this one is not too good.

Depressed but in full makeup
nbrice1824 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Oh Pam, so depressed that she's jump off a building, yet able to do full makeup in the hospital and wake up at home the next morning again in full makeup. Yes, someone that depressed would definitely take the time to expertly apply purple eye shadow before bed as well as lipstick, and upon waking said makeup isn't even smudged!

I love watching Dallas and enjoy the over the top soap opera drama, but sometimes it really goes into the ridiculous. Besides the women waking up fully made up the breakfast scenes at Southfork are annoying. Everyone, particulary Bobby and Pam, load their plates with bacon and eggs, yet never take one bite. It seems the producers of the show should have really tried to make it a tad more authentic!
