One of the best episodes of the 2001 season finds Larry in a meeting with some executives as he is going to be involved in a new Julia Louis-Dreyfus series. As a parting gesture, Lane Michaelson, the producer, invites Larry and Jeff to a screening of a new mini-series being shown at the network based on a Harriet Beecher Stone novel. There will be a small reception at Lane's home.
When Cheryl and Larry arrive, he is carrying a half empty water bottle. As he is going into the theater, he is stopped by a woman who informs him no food or drinks are allowed inside. He questions her authority, but decides to drink the remaining water before going in. Little does he know, this lady is sitting with the Michaelsons, and he trades insults with the woman.
At the party, Larry has to go to the bathroom, which is off the living room. He realizes it has no lock, so he decides to go find another one. What he finds is a child's bedroom, where Tara Michaelson is playing with her favorite doll Judy. She asks Larry if he can cut her hair and he takes out his Swiss army knife and proceeds to cut the doll's hair. To his surprise, after he returns to the party, the little girl is heard screaming because of the loss of Judy's hair. The Michaelsons are not amused.
Jeff has a solution for Larry. How about going to his daughter's room as he knows she has a Judy doll. They find it, after messing up Sammy's bedroom. Larry takes Judy's head and hides it inside his briefs. Susie, who has just separated from Jeff, comes in and figures something is wrong, but can't think what is really happening. Larry is able to give Mrs. Michaelson the head of the doll.
Evidently Larry has developed a rash on his penis when he hid the doll's head. The last sequence of this installment is pure genius. Larry and Cheryl go to the screening of part two of the mini-series; when he tries to use the men's room, he is horrified by the way it smells and asks Cheryl to see if the ladies' room is empty and to keep an eye for two minutes. As he still carrying a water bottle, he decides to hide it in his briefs again. Tara comes into the bathroom and she and Larry reconcile, but while hugging, the little girl is surprised to find a large, hard object under Larry's pants!
Perfection is what Larry David accomplished in this classic episode! Rita Wilson makes an appearance as Anne Michaelson. Jeff Garlin, Cheryl Hines, Susie Essman, Zach Grenier, and the children, Bailey Thompson and Ashly Holloway do an excellent ensemble work for Robert B. Weide, one of the regular directors of this witty series.
