The American dream for Ricardo Munoz, a illegal immigrant from El Salvador, comes to a stop, when Frank Dicenzio, his employer and the owner an Italian deli, is found dead from blows to his head. Money is missing from the cash register, plus when Ricardo is questioned, he has just about the same amount missing from the empty till at the store. Everything appears to work against Ricardo, who is tried and convicted of the murder.

Ricardo's brother, Paolo, comes to detectives Rush and Valens to beg for what he feels is a case of an innocent man paying for the crime someone else committed. The detectives decide it's worth a try. Kat Miller, who has transferred from Narcotics makes her debut with the Cold Case team. Nick Vera, who is seen arriving at their quarters, notices a baby carriage with a baby unattended. He takes the infant to the officer in the reception area. No one comes forward, so Nick is stuck with the baby.

As the investigation proceeds, the team goes to talk to Frank's son, Tommy, who has nothing to add to what it's already known. They also want to talk to "Stump" Fanelli, who is Tommy's best friend and, as it happens, he has a rap sheet a mile long for all types of crimes. For all practical purposes, the case shows that perhaps Ricardo was the one that really killed Frank. A valuable testimony comes in the person of a lady that dated Frank. Their dinner was a bad experience for the deli owner because she mentioned things about Tommy and Stump that Frank didn't want to hear.

Directed by Michael Schultz and written by Andrea Newman, this was a good episode. Tracie Thoms is officially part of the program. Jeremy Ratchford shows a softer side than we are usually used to seeing. The guests stars do good work under Mr. Schultz's direction.
