Poor Norm is being pursued by cats. He has gotten a job at Melvilles, a seafood restaurant, as a dishwasher. He has hit bottom. Diane decides that Norm should become Sam's accountant. Friends / Business

Warning: Spoilers
I quiet enjoyed this episode, it's a "Norman" episode, and oddly that kind of episodes are rare in the first two seasons, as Norman probably the most popular Cheers character. In this episode we have a peculiar plot with Norman being hired by Sam , who doesn't want Norman to be his accountant but sees himself obligued to. What I really liked about this is how they handled both sides with such ease, you can fully understand Sam's point of view of not liking changes and not liking mixing friends with business. While you also see the point of view of Norman who believes in himself and is sad that a friend doesn't believe in him. I also enjoyed the ending, I was expecting for it to be the cliché "everything is back at what it was the beggining" , but not this time, as Norman becomes the official accountant of Cheers and this is great for two reasons : 1) It lends more credibility to the fact he is always there; 2) We get to have even more plot lines with this amazing character . P.S.( Coach will always be my favorite !! "Did you have an accident Sam, or are you just happy to see me? ahahah!! " Diane : Well, I guess we can't escape from the conclusion Coach : And somehow I managed to do it!!" 7/10 ********** Peter Shelby

No Help Wanted (#2.14)

Warning: Spoilers
Norm is going through a tough time when his unemployment runs out and he still didn't find a job, he has to was dishes at some fish restaurant. Diane suggest Sam to hire him as Cheers accountant, Sam is reluctant first and when Norm presents him that he should get 15,000 back he goes back t his old one as he is afraid of getting in trouble. This causes them to fight and almost ruins their friendship, but at the end it all turns out to be good.

Not the funniest episode but it had great moments. The best of course is getting Norm closer to Cheers as he is now their accountant. Of course we never thought that Norm and Sam ill stop being friends!

Norm gets some bad breaks
dgplatt-601218 March 2024
This is the rare episode to explore Sam's relationship with his best customer. Next to Coach, Norm is Sam's oldest friend and closest confidante, but this time things get strained.

Norm's unemployment has gotten to the point where he seeks out a job washing dishes upstairs at Melville's. Seeing how desperate he is, Diane talks Sam into hiring Norm as his accountant. Turns out Norm does *too* good a job, and Sam decides to go with his old accountant, much to Norm's disappointment.

Everybody has some funny lines, but one of the best parts is when Diane recalls how she stood up for her beleaguered sorority sisters who "had poorly publicized coming out parties." Diane Chambers, civil rights hero?
