The Warlock Terminator
claudio_carvalho16 January 2007
Gavin, a warlock from the future, comes to the present to eliminate people that will develop a vaccine against the evil warlocks. Meanwhile, Prue casts a spell making people around the Halliwell sisters and themselves telling only the truth for twenty four-hours and then forget everything. She wishes to disclose her secret about being a good witch and her ability to Andy and see his reaction. But sometimes truth hurts.

"The Truth Is Out There... and It Hurts" is a very good episode of "Charmed", a sort of "The Terminator" and "Liar Liar" blended together. Both stories are interesting and funny, and the conclusion with Prue finding how Andy would react to her secret is consistent. My vote is eight.

The Truth Sux

Warning: Spoilers
Season 1 gets back rolling again by mixing opposite movies to produce opposite storylines that somehow work together.

The first storyline is ripped from "The Terminator" as a close-talking warlock has come back from the future to eliminate anyone who helped develop a vaccine against warlocks. As far as I know, being a warlock isn't a disease, so not sure how a vaccine would help. We actually see the creepy warlock kill two men in his quest before the sisters save a pregnant woman who was supposed to be his third.

Mixed with that dark storyline is a rip from "Liar, Liar" as Prue, of all people, casts a spell for personal gain, a truth spell that will allow her to find out Andy's response to her being a witch, while wiping his memory of it afterwards. Piper and Phoebe showed up at the manor as Prue was casting and were thus affected by it as well. This inadvertently leads to the one great thing to come from this episode, as Piper takes advantage of the truth spell to share a first kiss with Leo in an all-time Charmed moment. "What do you think about girls who make the first move?" ... "What do you think of guys that make the second move?" Well played on both sides.

The suck side of this is that Andy doesn't take Prue's reveal well and thus we end up with many more episodes of Andy not knowing the truth, which is a real bummer, as I believe the season was even better the short time that Andy knew.

It seems to me that there were many relevant questions Andy would have wanted to ask since Prue just saying she is a witch while showing her telekinesis doesn't mean a whole lot. Can she use magic? Can she cast spells? Or what does a witch actually do would seem to be important questions that anyone would want to know. Instead, Andy just says he can't handle it without really even knowing that IT would entail. For instance, Andy backs away without even knowing that being a witch means being constantly in danger from demons and warlocks. It seems out of character for Andy considering he's been the believer of the two cops the whole show so far. This is a missed opportunity in my book.

Anyway, some all-time Charmed moments here.

The truth and nothing but the truth

Warning: Spoilers
The truth is out there was a fun interesting idea to blend to genres together to create a heartfelt, funny and scary episode. The warlock Gavin was a unique warlock to introduce as he had a third eye that appears to kill his victims while looking like an ordinary man and from a future where a vaccine was created to wipe his mind out. Though it never goes into details about the virus I wonder if season eight's hocus pockus was the developmental stage for it since it only effected magical creature. Also I thought it was smart for Prue to caste a truth spell to find out how Andy feels without risky exposure.

The comedy elements are gold from Piper telling her demanding boss Martian off only to have to repeat it and get a raise after twenty four hours or Phoebe who can't help herself from commenting on her sisters fashion choices. Its interesting to note is why an untruth spell was never tried. I know it says until a certain time has passed but they have found loopholes before, but then again it could backfire and create a lie spell instead.

Another issue I enjoyed was seeing Andy deal with the supernatural as he freaks out realistically from a demonstration of his girlfriend's power and his justified break up since he wants a normal life without the extra worry of danger coming from demons. If only there were two sets of protection rings like Victor's to spare. Still its was to say that by the time Andy is ready to accept it and Prue gets her desired result he will die. This episode screams a great fan fiction that was produced to a grateful and delightful audience.

The One With The Truth Spell...

Warning: Spoilers
I love this episode. It's definitely one of my all-time favorite episodes from Season 1, as well as the entire show. But realistically for me, they're all fantastic.

In this episode, Prue decides to tell Andy that she's a witch. But since she's afraid he won't take it well, she finds a spell in the Book Of Shadows. Well, actually, the page magically opens onto the spell, so someone must've been helping her. I do love how it actually can be magically opened, because the entire show is about magic. Anyway, she casts The Truth Spell which will let anyone she talks to answer honestly for twenty-four hours, and then they will forget everything they heard or said. The bad thing about the spell is that if someone asks her a question, she'll have to answer it honestly. She casts the spell without realizing that Piper and Phoebe got home, so they are affected to. Or effected, I'm not sure. I think it's the first one. Anyway, a warlock is also killing people, and Phoebe discovers that he's a warlock from the future, that's why no one knows anything about him or how to stop him. In the end, he is stopped and sent back to wherever he came from. Prue finds Andy just before the spell ends, and sadly, he doesn't take the news of her magical powers very well. Afterwards, she decides not to tell him for real, not yet anyway.

Overall, I give this episode a 10 out of 10.
