He's dying to be born
owlaurence8 August 2008
Warning: Spoilers
This is a good, solid episode with huge stakes, a lot of action, an eerie trip to another plane and a major revelation at the end, so what could I complain about ? Chris has been increasingly (and understandably) worried about being conceived and he's gotten his two aunts to help him -none too subtly and none too efficiently. As the deadline (isn't that word apt ?) approaches, he starts to fade away and even meets an Angel of Death -though that part feels a bit like a filler.

However, logically enough, we mostly focus on Leo and Piper and on the big question : will do it or not ? Unfortunately, someone wants Leo killed and Darklighters start popping out all over the place, so romance is a bit low on everybody's priorities... until Leo and Piper find themselves stranded in the ghostly plane : an empty, greyish, magic-less place which only dying people can reach. And by an extraordinary coincidence, they've got one at hand ! The transitions from one plane to the other are well done and the hints that allow the sisters to be reunited create a very tight plot. The atmosphere in the ghostly plane is nicely eerie, with the added tension of having a persistent crossbowman hunt Leo.

The episode's conclusion also offers a lot of great moments : Chris's triumphant "YES!" when he reappears, Leo's painful decision to leave his family, Piper's look of astonished wonder when she discovers that Chris is her son (by the way, is it me or is the camera very carefully avoiding her stomach?). And finally, the big revelation that the Big Bad is actually good old Gideon. The thing is, technically he's not really evil. Just very pragmatic, sacrificing people like pawns for what he considers as "a greater good". So the season's stakes go up one big notch as poor little Wyatt is now targeted by the Underworld AND an Elder. It's becoming very difficult to draw a line between good and evil, and over the next years, the words "for the Greater Good" are going to become a very, very dubious motto.

Most important episode this season.

Warning: Spoilers
Used karma was getting rid of a storyline, that was going nowhere. Phoebe and Jason. It's a good filler, but one where things get once again, a little too silly. The Legend of Sleepy Halliwell, is good at introducing the school of magic, and have Phoebe discover Chris's true identity. I dream of Phoebe, is another one of those silly episodes, where Phoebe is the main attraction, and a way to deal with important storylines. And also has a relationship that was going nowhere, put to an end quickly. It's a shame we never knew what really happened between Richard's and Olivia's families, though... The Courtship of Wyatt's father, is another one of those episodes, you need to watch to understand this season's arc fully. Seeing Paige and Phoebe be super aunts to Chis, while keeping his secret. Was a great moment for the episode, and the season in general. And even though you know, all is well that ends well in Charmed lately, you follow this one with attention, until its rewarding conclusion.

Chris conception

Warning: Spoilers
Another weak episode as Leo and Piper are drawn into a parallel world between life and death by dark lighter. Meanwhile Chris only has a few hours for his parents to get together or risk never being born. It drags from one scene to the next as they journey through an empty city with the occasional dark lighter tracking them down trying to kill Leo. There isn't any menace or worrying he's out there to keep you tuned in. Chris's side story doesn't help as he just fades in and out yet makes no sense why he wouldn't be born as all the changes he made would be reversed and thus he's come back anyway.

Also I found it kinda trashy that Piper would conceive her son in an alley way. Its not romantic, co.rd off as tacky and makes Chris an accident. I know why Chris feels inferior to Wyatt as he wasn't wanted in the first place with his parents broken up and his father leaving for good once they reenter out world.
