Going back in time dealing with intimacy and evil! Plus Alyssa has a sexy scene!
blanbrn21 September 2021
This episode of "Charmed" from season 2 number 14 called "Pardon My Past" which first aired on Feb 17, 2000 is one early good and very interesting and sexy entertaining ones. The theme is the past and how love and evil can haunt one, in the present evening and time as the girls house is in a party mood while Phoebe(the beautiful and sexy Alyssa Milano) is studying for a college psychology exam only after everyone leaves she gets a chill and shake from the past like an intimate force touches her(also I must say at the start of the episode when Phoebe comes downstairs we the viewers are treated to a very sexy scene as one can see Milano sporting that sexy silk dark purple colored bra!) Leo and the girls give advice only spells and magic as always come into play as Phoebe goes back in time to fight evil and break from her evil ways and break away from being a witch and dropping old boyfriend Anton. Plus even look for an old lady still living with connections to the past as she has a damsel in distress scene in the hospital being tied up and gagged. Overall super wonderful great episode that's entertaining, exciting, and sexy with the Milano purple bra scene!

Another highlight of the season.

Warning: Spoilers
And the series altogether. Hints at Phoebe falling for the dark side, were made several times already. In very ambiguous and more direct ways. This time however, writers clearly foreshadowed season 3 and 4 arc for the character. Which made Pardon my Past, a must watch of the series. It can be corny and awkward at times, but always in a charming way. Flashbacks of sisters past lives in the 20s, fit the show accordingly, and were the best parts of the episode. That little nod at the Titanic, was cute. But feels a bit outdated now. My only complaint though, is how rushed the « vanquishing » felt, but that's a permanent feature on Charmed.

A Girl's Past Matters
seneuser23 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The idea of returning to a past life and the excuse to get the girls in 20's garb is an excellent one. Like Morality Bites, the past that is shown is somewhat ridiculous. The manor as a speakeasy? Crazy. With patrons regularly filing in and out despite the serving of liquor being a crime at the time.

The episode starts with one of Charmed's sexiest scenes with a lingerie clad Phoebe being pinned to a wall and molested by apparently a ghost. As it turns out, it was just a memory, a helluva memory. It's another slap to Dan's face when the girls send him home but insist on Leo staying. Good thing too, as Leo shows again that even without powers he's useful. Eventually he suspects that it is a past life that is intruding on the present. Good thing he's around to explain the plot to us.

After Phoebe casts a spell to investigate the past, it is discovered that she died the following day in 1924. As it turns out, it was at the hands of her cousins, which were Prue and Piper in a past life. Phoebe was a bad girl in that former life and was dating a warlock named Anton who was after her cousins' powers, of course. The warlock somehow created or found an amulet that made the wearer immune to all magic? I think Anton said immune to "your cousins' powers" but the Prue and Piper in the future are sisters and have totally different powers. If it is all magic, then more warlocks should come up with those things.

Anyway, the past Prue and Piper's way of handling the situation was to kill past Phoebe and curse her for all time, which is why Phoebe is in danger now. That seems awfully heavy-handed and crazy as opposed to simply destroying Anton.

We all like bad Phoebe, in any decade, and this episode not only has a cool vanquish but also a favorite moment of mine when Phoebe goes off with Leo and after he shows concern for her life, she tenderly touches his face and tells him not to worry or he'll get lines on his face. This isn't the last time that we see a moment like this between Phoebe and Leo, who end up regularly sharing secrets.

On the down side, though it was cool to see Leo in the past, the idea that he'd be living a past life in 1924 seems unlikely or is cutting it awfully close. After all, Leo Wyatt died during World War II as an army medic, probably circa 1945, likely in his 20's, which would place his birth in the early 20's.

Also, though it makes sense in the confines of the episode, the idea that Dan would be married to Piper in a past life is preposterous. He is nothing more than a footnote, less worthy of being in their past lives than Phoebe's future boyfriend Jason would be.

Regardless, I'd give this episode a 7 just for being the first to have Brian Krause as part of the intro, finally.

Darkness in the foreground

So to me ( even though I have yet to see season 3 ) was a precursor for the Cole/Phoebe storyline. It was so intriguing to see how her dark side was, and when she and Anton joined hands and sat there looking at the sisters I got a sense of other old school villain teams. I also enjoyed how we went to the 1920's and saw the clothes and heard the music. So far the season has picked up from it's stagnant beginning, with Prue quitting Buckland's and the club picking up business. Phoebe has really gone through some transformations this season. I gotta say the sisters powers in their past life were very awesome. Prue breathing ice, Phoebe casting fire, it was all so very entertaining to watch.

The One With Past Lives...
taylorkingston2 January 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I absolutely love this episode. Well, I mean I love all episodes of Charmed. I just can't help it. It's so amazing! Anyway, I love the introduction of past lives, and I always love time travel episodes.

In this episode, Phoebe is being haunted by her past life, and discovers that her past life is about to die. And since there was a curse put on her past life, it threatens Phoebe's and will kill her when Phoebe from the '20s dies. So she casts a spell to go back, where she is transported into the body of her former self, to find out what happens, and how to stop herself from dying in the present. Phoebe discovers that her past life has fallen in love with a warlock (or demon, I can't rememeber which), and has turned evil. Her cousins; Piper and Prue's past lives) stop her, by cursing and killing her. Phoebe is able to save herself, but has a few bumps along the way.

Best part of this episode: Everything.

Worst part of this episode: Nothing.

Overall, I give this episode a 10 out of 10, which in my ratings book is: Freaking Ridonkulous.

The Dark Past of Phoebe
claudio_carvalho22 February 2007
Phoebe is attacked by some invisible force, and Leo advises that it might be some signal from her past life. Phoebe casts a spell to live her former life, and she discloses that she was evil. Her boyfriend Anton was a warlock that wanted to kill her cousins and good witches Prue and Piper to steal their powers. Phoebe finds also that she used an amulet to protect herself against her cousins.

"Pardon My Past" is a silly episode of "Charmed", with a weak explanation for the attack to Phoebe. Further, how Leo could be Piper's lover if he died in World War I? My vote is five.

Past loves

Warning: Spoilers
Phoebe is being haunted by the past and when she trades souls finds out that she was once an evil witch with a warlock lover. Anton is sexy, dangerous and wants to turn Pearl against her cousins by enhancing her powers. It shows why Phoebe is attracted to the men she hooks up with and her draw to the dark side. It turns out souls travel the same circles trying to find each other in The next life with the sisters being cousins in the manor. The flashbacks to the 30s are very impressive with the automobiles, decor and rich costumes. Even the actresses look like they stepped into a time machine from the way they talk, look and behave very authentic.

The only problem I had with this episode is Anton was suppose to be immortal yet was killed easily by a blast of fire instead of surviving. Also I liked Leo being a lover of Patience who she had an affair with showing how the past influences the present and Leo & Piper are soul mates.
