Swapping Powers

While protecting the human and future white lighter Daisy, Leo is wounded by a poisoned arrow shot by the dark lighter Alec, who wants to seduce Daisy to procreate evil. Leo asks the Halliwell sisters to protect Daisy, and Piper casts a spell to swap the healing powers of Leo with hers, but accidentally Prue and Phoebe also switches their powers. The sisters have difficulties to handle their new acquired abilities, and Piper is unable to trigger the healing power. Meanwhile, Andy is having troubles with the Internal Affairs protecting Prue, and he is temporarily suspended from his duties.

"Love Hurts" is an excellent episode of "Charmed", presenting action, romance and comedy in adequate doses. Phoebe, as usual, has some of the best lines, such as when she says that problems are for Mondays mornings; or when she questions Prue and tells that she is not the yellow pages of innocents. When Prue says to Andy "Welcome to my world" is also great. In the end, the lesson that the pleasant power of love heals, while the painful power of hate kills. My vote is nine.

Love Triggers

This is probably my favorite episode of Season 1 though Dead Man Dating is right there. Here Darklighters are introduced though like many other things, they will end up a lot different in later seasons. The Darklighter is in love/obsessed with a woman who is destined to be a whitelighter. When the Darklighter shoots Leo with a poisoned arrow, Leo brings the future whitelighter to the sisters for protection before he dies.

As much as I like this episode, the beginning is ridiculous. When confronted by the Darklighter, Leo tells him that he'll never be able to find the woman he is after unless Leo was dead. So, the Darklighter conjures a crossbow and shoots Leo. Wow, who saw that coming? The stupidity of that scene is made worse a couple scenes later when Leo tells the sisters that the arrow he was shot with has a special poison that kills whitelighters. Whuh? So, you basically told the Darklighter he would need to kill you while knowing that he was armed with a weapon to do exactly that?

Also, how do the Elders know ahead of time that someone is destined to be a whitelighter? Don't people have to prove themselves worthy in life first?

Anyway, the real action in the episode picks up after Piper casts a spell to switch powers, wanting to use Leo's power of healing to heal him. Of course, her sisters were in the room at the time and thus everyone got the old switcheroo. Phoebe got to have fun with Prue's power while Prue got premonitions. Of course, the sisters all struggle to use these powers that they are unfamiliar with, complicating their ability to save the future whitelighter.

Eventually Piper manages to heal Leo, with love being the trigger, of course. This is the first time we see Leo and Piper confess their love for one another, a special moment that seems forgotten through the beginning of Season 2. In the end, the sisters managed to defeat the Darklighter by using his own power on him. Very cool banishment.

Despite Leo's ridiculous actions at the beginning, this will always be a personal favorite of mine as it took Piper and Leo's relationship to the next level and prepared them for the melodrama of Season 2. The power swap, also a first, was cool to see and probably fun for the actresses.

The One Where They Swap Powers...

This is one of my all-time favorite episodes from this season. I used to not like it, for a reason that I can't even remember, but now I love it. It's so good. I mean, every episode of Charmed is awesome in its own way, but this one is just so good.

In this episode, after escaping from a darklighter, Leo orbs into the sisters' home, and Prue, and Piper discover that Leo is a whitelighter. Leo is protecting a girl named Daisy, from a darklighter, which is pretty much an evil counterpart of a whitelighter, because the darklighter loves her, and won't let her go. Leo cloaks her from Alec, and goes to the Charmed Ones for help. Because Piper needs Leo to be okay, she swaps powers with him, so she can heal him. Unfortuently, the spell swapped everyone's powers. Leo has Piper's although it is never shown, Piper has Leo's, Phoebe has Prue's, and Prue has Phoebe's. Prue, and Phoebe go to find Daisy, and have to face Alec with each other's powers. In the end, Daisy is saved, and Piper is finally able to heal Leo, after she admits that she loves him. Also, Andy is suspended from the San Fransisco Police Department, and we discover that Inspector Rodriguez is actually an evil being.

Fun Fact: Phoebe uses her hands, and eyes when she has Prue's power.

Fun Fact: The Exchanging Powers spell is also used in 7x11: Ordinary Witches.

Fun Fact: Leo tells the sisters not to touch the poison arrow because it will kill them. However, in Season 4 it is revealed that only whitelighters, or part whitelighters will be affected after touching the poison.

Fun Fact: Phoebe's high school nickname "Freebie" is also mentioned in 6x17: Hyde School Reunion.

Fun Fact: Piper learns how to heal, and sense with Leo's power, but in 5x04: Siren Song, when she also gets Leo's powers, she does not know how to.

Overall, I give this episode a 10 out of 10, which in my ratings book is: Freaking Ridonkulous.

There is good and bad love

Once again fans are given a treat where the sisters are granted each other's powers and learn how to use them. Leo is the center of attention as he tries to be a guardian Angel to a woman plagued by evil. Even answering a few questions left unanswered. The comedy boys are ever present as the sisters have mishaps using their new found ability. The sweet moments are spent between Leo and Piper as they express suppressed feelings and each an understanding.

Lisa Kelly gave a great performance and left a lasting impression. Her portrayal was so vulnerable that I wanted to take her in my arms and comfort her myself. Michael Trucco seemed born to play the aggressor and if I didn't know he was an actor I'd believe he was out of his mind.

The finale actually feels like the whole episode came full circle and well rounded. The music, costumes and scenery provided a great hour of television.
