They Are Neither Killers Nor Angels: They Are the Charmed Ones
claudio_carvalho1 February 2007
The devil's sorcerer Tempus associates to the demon Rodriguez to destroy the Power of Three. Phoebe has a premonition with the death of Andy at their home and Prue makes him promise not coming to their house. When Rodriguez fails in his intention, Tempus resets the day, but Phoebe has a sensation of déjà vu, tells her sisters and they try to find in the Book of Shadows a means of vanquishing Tempus and Rodriguez.

"Déjà Vu All Over Again" closes the First Season of this charming series with golden key. The attractive story is a sort of "12:01" and "Groundhog Day", and the conclusion indicates that the characters will follow a new fate with the death of Andy and the decision of Piper of quitting her job. The witty lines of Phoebe are again a great attraction. The participation of David Carradine is a plus in this delightful show. My vote is ten.

The One Where Andy Dies...
taylorkingston19 November 2015
Warning: Spoilers
I absolutely love this episode. It's probably my favorite episode from this season, and is one of my all-time favorite episodes from the entire series. In terms of Season Finales, it also ranks high.

In this episode, Inspector Rodriguez gets a new demon to help him achieve his goal to destroy The Charmed Ones once and for all. Tempus, a demon who can reverse time, until Rodriguez is successful in killing the sisters. Each time the loop occurs, Phoebe discovers it a little faster, but it always leads up to Andy dying. In the end, Andy knows he will die, but goes to help anyway. The sisters speed up time, which defeats Tempus, and then while he makes one more attempt at killing them, Prue vanquishes Rodriguez.

Fun Fact: Phoebe's hair miraculously changes from a bun, to down with two clips in it, in one scene.

Fun Fact: Piper's necklace miraculously changes from a cross, to a butterfly, in one scene.

Fun Fact: This is the first episode where Phoebe has a premonition she is not destined to stop. This is told by the fact that she didn't see how Andy died, just that he had.

Fun Fact: During Season 1, The Charmed Ones, and their allies vanquished fourteen demons, eight warlocks, two mortals, one Darklighter, one ghost, one Lord Of War, and one Wendigo, for a total of twenty-eight evil beings.

Last appearance of: Andy Trudeau.

Best part of the episode: Everything.

Worst part of the episode: Rodriguez.

Evil beings: Rodriguez, and Tempus.

Spells: To Accelerate Time.

Overall, I give this episode a 10 out of 10, which in my ratings book is: Freaking Ridonkulous.

The Edge of Season 2
seneuser1 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This episode is original and tense enough to warrant a 9, though it is rather tame compared to other season finales. The stakes are higher as all three sisters are in danger.

The returning demon, Rodriguez, plans to kill the Charmed Ones. He is overconfident and his great plan is to simply walk through the front door and hit them with power balls (this is actually the first time we see a demon take this direct approach). The demon's failure is predictable, but the Source has sent an upper level demon to assist him. This demon, Tempest, has the ability to rewind time, which allows Rodriguez to keep attempting to murder the sisters, learning with each failure until he gets it right.

The weakness in this plan is that Phoebe's power allows her to instantly recognize something is wrong once time has been reset the first time. Her awareness of the situation allows the sisters to gain the upper hand on the third attempt. That last attempt, however, had Andy attempt to interfere and get killed. The other sisters would immediately look to have time rewound again except Prue stops them, obeying Andy's wish and insistence that he had fulfilled his destiny and knowing that a sister could very well die if they allow time to be reset again.

Considering her feelings for Andy and her actions to save innocents in the past, it is pretty hard to believe that Prue would just allow Andy to die rather than taking the risk of resetting the day again. Andy's request to die is the writers' way of getting out of this dilemma, but I find it hard to believe that the sisters would obey the request.

Anyway, the final disposal of Rodriguez is very good as well. Some demons never learn. This is goodbye to Andy; unfortunately, Prue would never get a better romantic interest.

If you had to relieve the same day over
Realrockerhalloween8 September 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Tempus promises a demon Rodrigous he will reset the day until he successfully kills all three Charmed ones. Know gaining the attention of the source after taking out 28 of his evil minions he sets his sights on them, possibly the Oracle foresaw his vanquish, to rid the world of its greatest defender. What makes this episode a grand finale and the most memorable besides the unusual premise is Andy is lost in the battle. Yes King wanted a bigger role for season two and couldn't come to an agreement in time thus allowing Phoebe's premonition of his looming death to be fulfilled.

Never have I wept or felt such sorrow over a recurring character who wasn't a lead. I cried along with Prue as she said far well to the love of her life and kissed the hopes of a picket white fence and children goodbye. His dream vision to her to comfort her grieving was a nice touch and actually feels fitting that he doesn't want them to rewind the day to save him or avenge his murderer as it wasn't in his nature to call for vengeance.

Another thing I realized is if Andy hadn't intervened Phoebe would take his place and Paige would take her's thus altering two years of history before her original arrival in season four. While I wish Tempus could join Rodrigous for his part in the murder I feel great knowing the date he will suffer two years from this time point. Deju vu couldn't possibly be better and was a fitting ending to season one.

A Truly Charmed Season Finale
rossmatthew-8542812 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Note: This review contains some spoilers for future episodes. Please be wary of this.

The episode was superb. Although there were a few flaws in the episode (i.e., Inspector Rodriguez shooting a cuckoo clock in public during broad daylight for everyone to see. Seriously, what the hell was he thinking?!), this episode kept me continually engaged and I found myself at the edge of my seat. The writers of this episode did a splendid job at upping the ante and differentiating this episode from all previous ones by showing us that the Charmed Ones are not dealing with the run-of-the-mill demon and established in the first scene, pre-opening credits that there will be consequenceS.

I appreciate how Phoebe was immediately suspicious about the time loop given her premonition powers, but I also appreciate how Prue was kind of aware of the time loop which I think is due to her characteristics and her psychic power.

Another minor detail I appreciate is every time Prue spoke with Andy in the park, her interactions with him changed as they progressed further into the time loop:
  • 1st day in time loop: "Andy, you know how much I still care about you."
  • 2nd day in time loop: "Andy, you know how much I still love you."
  • Last day in time loop: "Andy, I would literally die if anything happened to you." (Spoiler: This did NOT age well (*cough* Season 3 Episode 22 *cough*)).

(Note: I don't remember exactly what she said those three days, but I do remember that her quotes were along the lines of my paraphrasing.)

As much as I love Andy, and as salty as I am about his demise, I still believe that his death was meant to happen since his fate was set in stone as a tragic hero, and that Piper couldn't have frozen Rodriguez without Andy making a distraction since he could adjust to Piper's freezing power by anticipating it.

Some other things I loved about this episode:

"We're not killers, but we're no angels either." Powerful quote by Prue.

The song selection, "Calling All Angels" for Andy's funeral could not have been better.

Prue starting a tradition (a door closing at the end of the season finale) lasting the whole series when she telekinetically closes the door.

Overall, the writers, directors, producers, actors, and actresses worked in conjunction to make this episode a truly memorable and "charmed."

just a small observation
jtsjtssmokey-703-36697325 January 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Watching this episode was just an interesting play on time, ya some movies have done this and other TV shows too but this 1 was top.

Loved the fact that Andy was the 1st one to realize his destiny, just wished he didn't have to die. I do think he really was the one for Prue even though he said he didn't want anything to do with the scary magical world, but as typed, he "saw" his destiny and embraced it to save the sisters.

Didn't notice anyone else typing this anywhere, but every time the day repeated itself, there were changes, not just the ones that Rodriguez did out of anger. Besides the police station, the ones I think of are with Prue and Andy at the park (incl the "mind" one when Andy dead, Prue knocked out), and esp the words expressed from care to love (why they are/were meant).

Reason why I think of the small diff in the repeats of the day, can also (maybe reaching but going with it) be kinda similar to a parts of time travel. Wont get into it in this epi but will expand/explain why I kinda put it together in season 2 when the girls go to the future.

I have watched this show on TV, netflix and own the dvds. The music on netflix is OK but do prefer watching on the dvds, way better music, cant rem for what was on the TV as don't have the channel with reruns. An for the DVD music, esp the song used for Andys funeral, gave this epi a 10

Great season finale, if not a little flawed.
m-4782620 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Two pretty good fillers later, season one ends with a bang. And a death. Just like every Spelling production series, things get shaken up during first year's finale. To prepare us for a new and improved second season. The Groundhog Day idea works, but as usual in Charmed, it isn't done the way it really should. Only the way it is required to by the network. And I can't really shake the feeling of Alyssa Milano's haircut, suddenly changing every two shots during that episode... For killing off one of its main characters, season one will always be remembered as a 22 episodes long pilot, compared to the rest of the series that seem to flow naturally. But it by far the one I love rewatching the most.

Simply implausible, and here's why
gmb1023219 February 2016
Warning: Spoilers
I am totally fine with all the magic in the show. My objection is really about basic logic: how the hell did the Halliwell explain Andy's death in their own house?

In the real world there is no magic, fine, but even if there were magic, I am pretty sure police wouldn't stop questioning people who have policemen dying in their dwellings -- with no easily identifiable cause of death.

Yeah, at the end they say the police are looking for Rodriguez, but how the bloody hell did the police buy the explanation (what explanation, by the way?) the three sisters gave about Andy dying in their very house!?
