A Paige out of their book
owlaurence15 July 2008
Warning: Spoilers
(Btw, I know I shouldn't keep punning on Paige's name, but well, then they should have called her Pamela.)

This is an extremely fun episode. The B&W look is perfect for both actors and the basic idea (the heroes get sucked into a book and have to go through its entire story to get out of it) works very well here. We also get to know Kyle Brody a bit better, and to actually like him. Plus, this is the first time someone investigates a magical crime using forensic techniques, instead of the other way round, so it's worth a look. The whole idea of the self-writing book is good too, and Phoebe's interferences are very funny (especially the piano), even though I can't believe that someone who's famous for her articles would be THAT bad a writer. Come on ! "Then Eddie found out how Dan really died" ?!!

The One Where Paige And Kyle Go Into A Book World...

Warning: Spoilers
I liked this episode. At first I thought it was going to be boring, but it really surprised me. It is interesting though. Going into a world created in a book.

In this episode, a gnome is murdered at Magic School and Paige brings Kyle there, to help her solve the case. The gnome was deciding what books to ban from the school, and he wants to ban some really great books, by the way, and he was taken into one of the books, and then "spit out" after he was shot. A weird way to be murdered in the magic community. Kyle and Paige pick up the book, not knowing its power, and they are taken into the world. The world they are sucked into is the 1930s, where gangsters roamed everywhere. They must accomplish three things. 1. Find the original author. 2. Find the Burnese Falcon, the reason for the book. 3. Not be killed. Piper and Phoebe find the book and realize they can write things in. They can change subtle details about the plot, but only if the plot ends up being the same in the end. In the end, they find out who the authors were and Kyle and Paige save the day in the book, and are transported out of there. The one thing that confuses me, other than never seeing gangster movies, so I was already confused, is that a gnome is magical. Would bullets really kill one? Obviously the answer is yes.

Fun Fact: This is Rose McGowan's favorite episode of Charmed.

Overall, I give this episode an 8 out of 10.

Book end
Realrockerhalloween6 October 2016
Warning: Spoilers
A nice noir episode as two teachers at magic school find a book written by brothers who disappeared and left the book unfinished. When opened Paige and Brody are sucked into a black & white world where they deal with mobsters, meddling sisters trying to help guide them and on the search for the golden falcon. It has nice mystery elements as they find out Eddie was killed by the mobster so his brother would lead him to the location of the treasure and the sisters find out details about the brothers life that lead to their died.

Yet my only problem is the mobster is a creation of the book so what does he gain or earn for finding the falcon and what happens to him if he dies. I feel it would work better if a demon or warlock had been trapped in with them and trying to claim them as victims as cliché as it sounds to clear up confusion.

Another highlight of the season.

Warning: Spoilers
And the whole series probably. It's another one of those rare episodes, where they managed to make something original and fitting, out of a tired script. The Noir special. Several shows have their own, only Charmed succeeded at making it both entertaining, fun and perfect for the series. The romance novel written by students of the magic school, that can be re-written according to characters stuck in it idea, has Charmed written all over. And obviously, Phoebe was the one who found the idea of writing new pages to save Paige and Brody... It's a nice break from the Avatars subplot and it marks the beginning of the Brody/Paige mini-romance. That overly sensitive gnome made me chuckle, he would fit perfectly into « this » world...
