A new team is formed
owlaurence30 May 2008
I loved Prue, so I was very disappointed when she left -and through the small door at that-, but the new season begins in a great way. As often, there are two different plots. The main one, in which Paige must choose which side she will fight for, is rather predictable, although it has good moments. The other one deals with the new inspector's hostility towards Piper and Phoebe. At first, it sounds awfully overdone(at this stage, we've seen the "meddlesome cop" storyline about 3 or 4 times), but its treatment allows for some really good scenes, and I like its silent but meaningful conclusion.

Now, interestingly enough, the best part of the first two episodes is not about the sisters, it's about their men. Cole and Leo working together is hilarious. For a demon and an angel, they seem to get along just fine, even though their ways of dealing with problems are... rather incompatible.

Controlling the Powers in the Good Side
claudio_carvalho28 April 2007
The Source possesses the body of Paige Matthews's boyfriend to seduce her to the evil side. Meanwhile Paige acknowledges her power with the support of Phoebe and Piper. Inspector Cortez puts the Halliwell sisters under surveillance, and Darryl, Cole and Leo are not able to convince him that the sisters are the "good girls". Paige helps Leo to save Cole with her whitelighter ability.

As a previously mentioned, the writer used the resource of a bastard daughter, left in a church by a witch (Patty) and her whitelighter lover (Sam), to restore The Power of Three. In this episode, Paige contacts her mother and controls her powers. The explanation for an angel and a good witch abandon their baby is totally inconsistent with their mission of saving innocents. The innermost innocent of their own was left and forgotten in a church. My vote is nine.

Strong start to a disappointing season.

Warning: Spoilers
Season 4 is disconcerting. First you have this great premiere, that makes the transition between the old and the new sister perfectly, before fizzling out into that underwhelming season finale. I hate how this episode was broadcasted after the first airing. It should've stayed edited like a TV movie, that's the way it was the most efficient. So my rating and comment is done accordingly. Rose McGowan is a great addition, a gifted actress when given the right material, even. She was the right mix of strength and vulnerability the Paige character needed. I wished it was Jennifer Love Hewitt, mostly for the physics, as she looked a lot like Alyssa Milano and Finola Hughes. But I'm still glad with whomever producers picked. Holly Marie Combs delivered big time in this episode. Her Piper is devastated by her sister's death, and she nails it completely. Much can't be said about Alyssa Milano, the part where writers want us to know Phoebe's crushed by the loss of her sister as well, looks so disingenuous it's hard to watch. It was disappointing to say the least... Obviously, it don't stop us from enjoying the two hours premiere, which is both a great follow up to last season's finale, and a reboot all at once. So it was nice to see the show back in shape, after the cheap looking way it was last year.

The One Where The Source Possesses Paige's Boyfriend...
taylorkingston8 October 2014
Warning: Spoilers
I love this episode. It's a great second part to the Season Premiere.

In this episode, The Source is running out of ideas. Paige has forty-eight hours to decide whether she wants to be good or evil. She can't be magically manipulated, but people can persuade her. So that's what The Source decides to do. He possesses Paige's boyfriend and tries to get her to use her powers for evil. If she does, she becomes evil forever. Piper and Phoebe try and show her their ways, and we see Paige's power for the first time. Since the third Charmed One has the power to move things with her mind, like Prue could, that's what her power is. But it's very different from Prue's. Since Paige is half whitelighter, it changes the way the power works. Instead of squinting her eyes, or waving her hand, Paige simply needs to call for something, such as a candle, and it orbs to her hand. It's very cool. A new twist on telekinesis. Eventually, Paige sees her possessed boyfriend for what he really is. The Source. She chooses the side of good, and this makes The Source very angry, obviously. At the end of the episode, Piper and Phoebe conjure their Mother, Patty, and Paige gets to meet her Mum for the very first time.

Overall, I give this episode a 10 out of 10.

The Second Part of the Classic Two-Parter
arturo_smallcharm7 September 2006
After Shannen left the show, THE WB did want to go on with the show, they asked executive producer Brad Kern to replace Shannen. The casting began with the very known actresses as Jennifer Love Hewitt, Eliza Dushku, Thiffani Amber Thiessen (weird fact it's that Thiffani replaced Shannen, when she got fired from Beverly Hills, and she was about to replace her again) and finally, the big winner Rose McGowan (better known for her role as Tatum Riley in 90's movie Scream, produced by Wes Craven).

Rose charmed the producer Aaron Spelling, and they went for her. Since 4th season to the final 8th season, we knew a better Rose, out of slutty roles in her prevoius movies.

After episode 4.5, the characters did not talk about Prue (Shannen), they did forget her right away, as well as we all did.

What demon uses butcher knives? Not demons, sisters
Realrockerhalloween7 September 2016
Warning: Spoilers
The exciting conclusion picks up where Paige now must choice to be a good or bad witch. The Source possesses Shane and uses his Oracle to turn his new prodigy into a useful weapon. Everything about this episode works from the different location shots, music, lighting and using a window of opportunity to create realistic drama.

However I do see a few plot holes that could've easily been fixed like dropping the abused child side story and making it a race against the clock to save a wounded Cole. Another is how such a system was set up in first place since it would seem silly for good or evil to work together and usually your born with powers from birth already making the decision clear on what side you fight for. And if the Oracle could see all then why not send an assassin to kidnap or turn one of the sisters long before they became charmed?

Still I love the family bond theme that even half siblings are still blood, they will never replace the one you lost, but weaken the pain. The Source was spooking, surprising seductive and persuasive showing why he is the king. I also like the blooming friendship between Leo and Cole as they work together to reunite a broken home.

Charmed Again delivers a satisfying conclusion and leaves you with so many emotions to process you'll feel like you went through the journey yourself.
