There Is Always a Reason for Everything
claudio_carvalho28 April 2007
The DVD of the Fourth Season was released with both episodes ("Charmed Again – Parts 1 & 2") together. The beginning has an ellipsis and is absolutely non-sense and shows an absolutely lack of respect of the producers with the viewers: Prue is dead and Phoebe and Cole are back from the underworld without any explanation. Later it is disclosed that Shax killed Prue and Dr. Griffiths after the reversion of time. But there are no explanations regarding the return of Phoebe and Cole. If we disregard this absolute lack of coherence in the plot, these two episodes are great.

Piper, Phoebe and Leo are grieving the death of Prue with Victor Bennett, Cole and friends, when Darryl arrives with the arrogant Inspector Cortez, who is in charge of the investigation of the two mysterious murders. Meanwhile, the assistant of the South Bay Social Services Paige Matthews is attracted by the obituary and goes to the funeral. Later she discloses that she is half-sister of Piper and Phoebe. The Source is informed by the Oracle about the existence of this new witch and come to Earth to seduce her to the evil side in forty-eight hours.

As I previously mentioned, the writer used the resource of a bastard daughter, left in a church by a witch (Patty) and her whitelighter lover (Sam), to restore The Power of Three. Shannen Doherty was certainly the best actress of this show, and will certainly be a great absence. I hope Rose McGowan shows the same chemistry with Alyssa Milano and Holly Marie Combs and saves the series. My vote is nine.

Sequel to All Hell Breaks Loose (2001)
rfant0115 December 2009
Though a seaming non sequitur to All Hell Breaks Loose (2001) the end of season 3. these episodes are more concerned with the recovery of "the Power of Three" (the main foundation of the series) after the dismissal of Shannen Doherty, than why she was lost. The episode All Hell Breaks Loose (2001) ends with an attack by the demon Shax on Prue, Piper and Dr. Griffits with all three blasted, Unconscious & Bleeding. In this episode it is mentioned that Prue & "a prominent doctor" are killed in their home & that Leo saved Piper but was not allowed to save Prue. it also mentions that Cole fled the underworld, saving Phoebe from her promise to remain & making him a trader to "The Source". Though not mentioned in this episode the promise to remain in the previous episode was conditional that Prue & Piper receive a warning of the attack, but that warning was not delivered nulling Phoebes promise to remain.

What happened?

Warning: Spoilers
This is not a comment on the writer, but this episode left out a few good little details to have. Like why did Piper live and Prue die? They were both shown dead at the end of the episode before, and now Piper is alive. I'm not concerned with the behind the scenes happenings of why, but the storyline whys. Also, why was Phoebe supposed to be locked in the underworld, and now back up top? These are just a few things that I would like to have an answer to. Why did the writers think that no one would notice? The viewers aren't stupid. I just want answers. This should be addressed with the production staff before deciding to air a show like this with a followed storyline. The thing of watching a serialized show like this is there shouldn't be gaps in the storyline. When prominent gaps like this surface, someone will ask questions. If you would like answers to where did the missing material go, and why did Prue die and Piper survive, you're not alone.

The One With Paige...
taylorkingston3 October 2014
Warning: Spoilers
I love this episode. But I was sad to see Prue go. But, that happens when you're always fighting demons. Death is a risk you take.

In this episode, we see Piper, Phoebe, Leo, Cole, Darryl and Victor all grieve over their fallen friend, daughter and sister. Piper is the one who's struggling with it the most. We find out that The Source is happy that he has essentially, ended the Charmed circle. Because "one gone, ends the threat". Until we find out that there is another sister. Paige. Prue, Piper and Phoebe's half sister. Their mother had, had an affair with her white-lighter. Paige is half white-lighter, half witch. Piper and Phoebe don't take this news very well. The episode ends with the three sisters vanquishing Shax and Paige running out in terror.

Overall, I give this episode a 10 out of 10.

The reconstitution of the power of three
Realrockerhalloween7 September 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Charmed Again was a fantastic two hour event feeling like an epic movie with set designs, music, costumes and an action packed story line dealing with Prue's death and the discovery of a half sister.

While the last season left all three witches fates unknown and picks up a week later where the audience is told instead of shown what went down after Shax left the house. Leo arrived to late to heal both sisters and could only save one. Cole and Phoebe nearly escaped the underworld only to find a devastating scene awaiting them.

After a resurrection spell fails to bring back the power of three, a new witch is found and now they must find her before the demonic hit-man does first. Its the first time we are introduced to The Source And his informant an Oracle who kept him informed throughout the show instead of an ominous godlike figure.

I couldn't really ask for a better follow up to All Hell Breaks Loose full of mayhem, heart warming moments and what sisterhood really stands for. While I wish Shannon could stay on to finish the show, I grew to really like her replacement Paige, adding new fresh material to explore and was a fun character lighting up the scene every time she appears. Rose Mcgown is native, reserved and full of spunk when push comes to shove.

Don't miss an exciting hour of television you'll never forget.

Reply to: Where did Shanen go?

Warning: Spoilers
Pru died on the last episode of the previous season which ended with Pru, Piper and the innocent in The Manner unconscious after being attacked by Shax. Time was reversed and Piper was brought back to life but Pru and the innocent both died at a point that occurred earlier in the show where Leo was originally able to save them. However, due to the circumstances (too detailed to go into right now) he was unable to get there in time to save anyone but Piper (which they explain in the beginning of this episode) because Pru and the doctor were already dead and Leo cannot "cure" death. I am sure that the original plan was to save everyone but because of Shannen Doherty's departure, they had to do some cleaning up and explaining retrospectively. I think they did a good job, considering, although I can't help but feel that there is something missing because they did have to explain rather than actually allowing us to really see it (Leo saving Piper and not being able to save the others)but as I said, they did the best they could. What bothered me the most was that they never explained how Pheobe, Cole and Leo escaped the Underworld. Hope that answered your question.
