Intriguing mystery with a chilling twist
Tanuccoon16 November 2008
An amusement park ride gone wrong results in several deaths after the roller-coaster derails. Originally thought an accident, examination shows that it may in fact been sabotage. To compound the mystery another body is found in the parking lot near the crashed roller coaster, bludgeoned to death. Meanwhile, the death of a young woman is investigated.

The amusement park murders stay compelling as the team uncovers some after-hours hanky panky at the park and a love triangle. The ultimate revelations for this part of the story are delivered effectively. Less compelling is the story of the murdered girl, despite a somewhat engaging motive, since it serves more to flesh out the character of a team member (by contrast). Although a little lukewarm, it meshes well with the stronger story. Ultimately, both stories are intriguing for the slight parallels to each other and the raw humanity behind the culprits' actions.

Roller Coaster and Motherhood
claudio_carvalho7 January 2023
When a roller coaster derails in an amusement park, there are six victims in the parking lot. Grissom, Nick, Sara and Capt. Brass investigate the case and soon they find that five deceased persons were in the train, but the employee Jim Nevins died twenty-hours before with a head trauma. Grissom interviews the park chief engineer Woody and learns that the old roller coaster has good maintenance. Grissom shows a nut to Woody and he says that it would be impossible to cause the train derail since there are eight sets that would have to lose. Meanwhile, Catherine and Warrick investigate the murder of the thirteen-year-old Tessa Press that was found murdered but not raped. Her mother Raina tells them that Tessa used to go to the house of a friend twice a week and she had assumed that her daughter was with her friend. Now they need to find what has happened to her.

"Turn of the Screws" is a great episode of "CSI", with two engaging stories. The main story of the accident in the roller coaster is interesting, with the investigation of the CSI team to find the truth. The second story is sad, when Catherine and Warrick find the truth of what happened to Tessa. My vote is eight.

Ups and Downs

An interesting episode which begins with a car on a roller coaster going off the rails and sailing into a parking lot, killing everyone on board. It is noted that some bolts have been tampered with but the problem is finding a motive and, in turn, finding a suspect. At the same time, a thirteen year old girl is found dead on a path. The solution to this crime has a really striking result. One of the better episodes.

Dead men don't ride roller coasters.

Warning: Spoilers
I also find the episode very entertaining and exciting. Grissom shows his typical dry humor and sharp powers of observation again in this episode. He doesn't allow himself to be influenced by the doubts of his colleagues or the suspect's tricks. He trusts the evidence, which he analyzes using scientific methods.

I find his charismatic appearance and his image as a competent and experienced investigator of the unit absolutely convincing and impressive.

The question to the perpetrator "why didn't you repair the roller coaster?" was a real hit.

The episode will definitely appeal to viewers who are not so familiar with CSI. It could be scary for viewers who have a panic fear of rollercoasters.
