Hit and Run and Drowned in the Desert
claudio_carvalho27 October 2022
When a boy trips on the floor and burns his hand, the hazmat team is summoned to examine the soil in the park. When they find a body covered in lye buried on the ground, Grissom, Sara and Capt. Brass investigate the case. They learn that the victim is Bob Martin, and in the autopsy that he was struck by a car and died bleeding out for two days. When they identify the car, they locate the owner, the lawyer Ben Weston. Now they try to learn what has happened to Martin. Meanwhile, Nick and Detective Cyrus Lockwood investigate the case of the body of Stacy Warner that was drowned in the desert. He boyfriend Matt Hudson tells to Nick and Lockwood that they were training for a competition of extreme sport and Nick suspects of Matt.

"Anatomy of a Lye" is an interesting episode of "CSI", with two good storylines. The death of Bob Martin is ironical, when the viewer learns what has happened to him. The other segment has an unlikely finding from Nick and Detective Lockwood. The probability of such event is remote. My vote is eight.

Weirdbodies!

The key to this episode is the state of the bodies that are being investigated. One of them is a young woman who is an extreme sportsperson. She has been found on a desert floor, drowned. The other is a man who is found in a park. His body has been submerged in lye and is badly decomposed, even though he has only been dead for a short time. The suspects have interesting alibis. One is an obnoxious young lawyer who draws attention to himself through his arrogance. What transpires is quite intriguing.

CSI:Crime Scene Investigation-Anatomy of a Lye

Warning: Spoilers
Ghoulish case about a corpse found in the city park covered in lye highlights this episode of CSI which might remind viewers of Stuart Gordon's film with Mena Suvari and Stephen Rea called STUCK. The suspect is a lawyer who claims his BMW was stolen while he was picking up Chinese food take-out, but Grissom and Sara believes otherwise as the evidence slowly unravels a hit-and-murder. The lye body shows all the signs of being hit by a car, knees damaged, face torn up, upper torso bruised and battered. It seems that the suspect has all the answers to keep himself in clear:bleach in the garage corrupts any possible blood trace, while they find that the lock hadn't been tampered with he says he left the keys in the ignition while picking up his food, and a seat belt bruise signifying stomping of brakes for which he claims to have hit something but couldn't determine what. A 15 second phone call could be a detrimental factor against him, though. While Warrick and Catherine are stuck in court, Nick is on an interesting case where a drown victim(!)was found in the desert, the girlfriend of an extreme sports nut. Blood on her forehead from a blunt force against the noggin, goose feather found in her mouth, a certain kind of rock piece located on her person, and a frozen maggot in her ear(its pupa cycle disrupted), all evidence points to her having scaled up a mountain. How a possibly doctored map and a specific kind of weather pattern bringing forth a dumping of rain could have significance in the victim's demise. Its kind of neat seeing Nick on his own, putting together the case with some help from Greg(Greg's role continues to evolve as he becomes a more vital part of the CSI team, besides his work as a DNA analyst)who offers some knowledge about the weather pattern which comes over a certain mountainous region in Nevada. Seeing Grissom and Sara up against a smug, self-assured lawyer is also exciting to watch, particularly the final result which is quite satisfying.
