The Cory one
salhy-4088215 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
"You should look for him, he always looked for you" well I'm glad Topanga noticed that too. Whenever Cory got a shot on sometime Shawn's always right behind him cheering and give him the confidence to go for it. Or even, there's a lot of time which he putted himself behind and push Cory in the front for him to get the light and was actual happy and enjoying with him. Shawn's a giver, a big one and of course not everybody can be as much as he is but for sure if I should pick one of his qualities as my favorite it would be that one. "I was supposed to be the one to succeed, nor Shawn. Everyone knows that"... I like Cory but having that kind of thought about your best friend his really pity and disappointing from him. How could he be so demeaning towards him ? That's what make a huge difference between both of them : Cory always telling to Shawn how much his worthy and have that kind of pity ego that he would tolerate Shawn succeeding as much as he'll we have something to do about it and that he was already succeed on it yet. Instead, Shawn is always pushing him to do better with words and actions, he actually took action to put Cory on the front stage, always and never expect to have something in back or feel any envy, he just happy for his buddy and will be the first one the make himself whistle for Cory success. I love them both together and I don't think that will change anytime soon but as I always thought until the very first season and not in the purpose of taking count or anything but Shawn is a way better bestfriend for sure because it didn't expect anything back and will never get all grumpy and lousy because Cory succeed on someone's he didn't. As simple, Cory doesn't give him any credit and always push on making his idea way more credible than Shawn's which is totally pathetic.

Cory did it again !
salhy-4088215 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Here we got a perfect example of why I'm considering Shawn a better friend to Cory than Cory to him. Anytime Cory can succeed to something, you can be sure than Shawn would be right behind him cheering out loud and even pushing him even more in the front stage. He's always supportive to him and if he can make something to Cory to shine, you can bet he will... until putting himself in the background and even let Cory have credits to things he did himself because he's the kind of person who happens to be a giver, without excepting anything in return, without been greedy in anyways. He is just one who gave to Cory the most confidence material through all this years, even demeaning himself front of him to hype him even more. That is really rare, a gift he has since ever which has the tendency to easily turned into a curse to him : that's why he never gave himself any credit because he thinks of Cory being the one supposing to succeed and he's not even resenting Cory for that, he doesn't whine about it neither make Cory feel guilty for that, for him it is just a fact and that's why when time comes to him to shine he's afraid, feels not good enough and over less legitimate to have the spot. In other hand, we have Cory more confident that Shawn in apparence (which I remind again is a huge part thanks to Shawn), who wants to get along with Shawn in life... ever since Shawn is not taking more light that he is or if he doesn't already succeed on, whenever thing it could be, before Shawn did. He wants Shawn to be more confident and realize all the skills he has to offer BUT unconsciously whenever advise he has to give him, he's not giving to him just because he feels he has to help him, there's a little part of himself which thinks he's better than Shawn, that he has to be because that's how life has to be and let's say that is the sickening part of their friendship I hate the most. I'm a huge fan of their bromance but I hate seeing Cory giving to him and waiting to receive something back to Shawn as the credit to be the one who always owns the truth and the credibility. "I was supposed to be the one to succeed, not Shawn. Everyone knows that" "I am happy for him but what about me" ... is he even realizing what he is saying ? Finally the show puts an entire episode to this issue present since the very beginning of the first season, it just had grown bigger and bigger and I could quote so much scenes in which Cory is really demeaning to his supposed BFF. "Look Cory, I hope your looking up for him, he really looks up to you" Topanga, just a queen, she just spell out loud what I'm always saying each time we got to see Cory playing the brat one whining to be left behind instead of cheering for his best friend "Well, maybe you have to give Shawn a little more of credits. I mean if he's doing well you should be happy for him" no more to say. Cory is always telling to Shawn how much he's worthy but he has that kind of pity ego that would make him tolerate Shawn succeeding as much as he'll have something to do about it and mostly that he had already succeed on it before Shawn of course. Instead, Shawn is always pushing him to do better with words and actions, he actually tooks action to put Cory on the front stage, always and never expects to have something in return or feel any envy, he's just happy for his buddy and will be the first one to whistle for Cory success. I think this is turning point of their relationship. I love them both together but there facing bigger issue than just Shawn considering as cool by the others kids and Cory feeling left down so resenting Shawn for it and Shawn putting himself down to cheer him up and put Cory upper than him. That was toxic enough back then but now they're in senior year, the final step before really entering in the real world and let's say that that kind of dynamic is just gonna blow both of them up if they don't work out on it. Shawn unconsciously putting himself down and giving up all the light and credits he could have and deserve in favor of Cory, this latter, again unconsciously, being more and more greedy about it to even end thinking he's better than Shawn or has to be because that how things have to be dynamic definitely has to come to an end and quickly. I mean come on, he even pushed his boss to make Cory having a job again and let's say there's nothing to be ashamed about being a janitor... dixit Cory when Shawn's dad was in their school. "It has to be a mistake" he said that sentence countless times and that just makes me angrier, like him up doing meaningful stuffs and Shawn still down on the mail box job would be totally normal and in that case he could have accept to have Shawn up too, thanks to him and because he made him before him. He's always so competitive towards Shawn for no other reason than been deep down even less confident than Shawn himself which first of all is a lot to say and secondly just makes Shawn even less confident yet... way to go Cory, his worst flaw it's definitely to be full of himself and not only with Shawn, let's not forget Eric in the process. I can't help but liking him but that episode reminds me was I never was able to completely love him.

Ah 90s tv.

If this was a real reflection of work they'd both be lucky to be made janitors :D

Phone, credit card, and a fax machine for a teenager who can barely spell his own name? Yeah, hardly the real world :D
