Richie and Eddie experience the not so great outdoors
snoozejonc12 October 2020
Richie and Eddie go camping on Wimbledon Common.

This is another strong episode from the excellent second series of Bottom where Richie and Eddie bring their typical banter and slapstick violence to a more countrified part of London.

For the majority of the story Rik Mayall and Ade Edmondson are the only actors who appear. Their visual gags are some of the best physical comedy I've ever witnessed, particularly dart and blowpipe sequence. The character concepts of Richie trying to get back to nature alongside Eddie the 'urban pustule' who doesn't want to be there works really well.

All of the above is laced with the usual juvenile filth and bad language that characterises the show. When a third character makes a brief but hilarious appearance, he gives Richie and Eddie a real sight to remember. This along with the proximity to the bus-stop, the local wildlife or the trashy state of the environment, gives a certain Britishness to an experience of the not so great outdoors.

Possibly one of the best episodes out there
Jay-1829 June 2014
Warning: Spoilers
It has all the ingredients that all the other Bottom episodes have. Lots of (very much fake) violence, foul language, dirt, 'a hint of' sex, and of course Ade and Rik - may he rest in peace. Nothing more, nothing less, although this episode stands out as one of the best. It's also one of the very few episodes that doesn't take place at the flat, but in a sad excuse for a park around where the guys live.

I've had it lying around on VHS ever since it was first broadcast way back in the mid 90s, and it still makes tears come to my eyes from laughing.

The type of humour Rik and Ade bring in Bottom is hit or miss, but if it's hit, it's pretty much like that dart in the back of Rik's head... spot on!
