The Hadfields and McFaddens are thinly disguised Hatfields and McCoys, whose infamous feud raged from 1863 to 1891 along the West Virginia and Kentucky border. This episode's lighthearted story also draws inspiration from the Ancient Greek comedy Lysistrata, written by Aristophanes and first staged in 411 B.C.

This is the first time that any Cartwright has been in Texas. Here, both Hoss and Little Joe are in the "Lone Star State."
Dorothy Crehan was in the movie, "I Was a Teenage Werewolf" (1957), along with Michael Landon. Guy Williams was also in the movie, and he appeared in Bonanza five times (all in 1964).
