One of the Best Serena Episodes

Warning: Spoilers
Any Serena episode is always a treat. And it's great that Samantha's character doesn't lose its punch in Serena's scene-stealing presence. I also agree with an earlier reviewer that Ms. Montgomery's snippet of Boyce & Hart's song is far more interesting than their own performance.

Let's blow Elizabeth Montgomery a kiss in the wind.

Warning: Spoilers
I'll never forget talking to the real Elizabeth Montgomery on the phone years ago in a customer service capacity and her telling me that her assistant "Larry" would be coming in to pick up what she ordered. She said "Larry" exactly as how she referred to Larry Tate for the eight years on this show, and even though we spoke mainly about business, there was always a pleasant, kind air about her voice, and it makes me see why many people who only knew her from "Bewitched" felt like they knew her. There was magic about her as a person, and certainly magic about her in her performances as Samantha and in the recurring role of cousin Serena. In fact, Serena dominates the episode in the most hysterical fashion with Samantha basically supporting, even if she does support her cousin by going to the Cosmo Cotillion to see real life singers Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart perform Serena's song (actually their song), "I'll Blow You a Kiss in the Wind".

Serena is furious over the way their manager, Art Metrano, treats her, so she casts a spell that temporarily destroys their popularity. Boyce and Hart are a part of Darrin's latest advertising campaign, so the Stephens are heavily involved in the story, but it is Pandora Spocks who gets the bulk of the air time and the best material, although Boyce and Hart are fun as themselves, nearly stripped to the altogether as they face a parade of fan gurls. Montgomery (aka Ms. Spocks) does a great job of singing the theme song, and the groovy lighting takes the viewer back to the days of the Beatles, Monkeys, Herman's Hermits and yes, even the Mosquitoes from "Gilligan's Island". The set for the Cotillion is also quite memorable, looking like something you might find inside a nightclub either in the Garment district of New York or Carnaby Street in London. This is a practically perfect episode that will bring out the inner 60's hepcat in everyone.

Serena blew me away!

In this episode, Elizabeth Montgomery is unbelievably sexy as Serena!! Her short, sexy dress made me forget all the problems of the world! The Royce and Hart thing was OK. I enjoyed just watching Serena do her thing. On some level, Serena was the character that Samantha should have been. Particularly when Dick York was Darrin, Serena would have really put Darrin in his place. Elizabeth Montgomery was just amazing. She was the conservative Samantha. She was also the ulta-sexy Serena. I loved her both ways.

One of the best episodes

Warning: Spoilers
Season 6 was the last season that I liked and it even took away the drabness of season 5, which was marred by the absence of Aunt Clara and the ill health of Dick York. This is one of the brightest episodes in my opinion (they always are super exciting whenever Serena appears anyway) and it's a delight getting to watch Elizabeth dance as both Sam and Serena, and then her performance of "I'm gonna blow you a kiss in the wind" ! Mindblowing! Much better than the Boyce and Hart performance too! Perfect plot even without Endora! Started liking Dick York after watching this episode. Taking and implementing elements of pop culture and poking fun at them - sarcasm at its best! Liz Montgomery is the best! She steals the show from the guest performers Boyce and Hart! One of the funniest and most refreshing episodes in a long time!

Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart
kevinolzak22 December 2013
"Serena Stops the Show" features one of the last appearances of hit singing-songwriting duo Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart, as Serena wants them to perform her song at the 'Cosmos Cotillion,' grinding their careers to a halt so they can't refuse. The track in question is their own composition, "I'll Blow You a Kiss in the Wind," an unsuccessful single issued in Sept 1969, five months before this telecast. In their first scene, we also enjoy a brief snippet of their biggest hit, "I Wonder What She's Doing Tonite." Elizabeth Montgomery may have enjoyed hamming it up as Serena, but it's a real chore watching her (though she too gets to perform the song).
