IGNORE UNSAVY VIEWERS (This Is Superb Episode)

PRODIGY is a very unusual and well acted BEWITCHED episode... Taken from footage previously shot when Emmy Winning Bewitched Actress ALICE PEARCE was still alive (she died during season 2) and footage added to newly filmed scenes after Samantha gave birth... The story revolves around Gladys Kravitz's brother who is a terrified but talented violinist... There is alot of rare footage of life at the Kravitz house... A very unusual and eccentric episode with Alice Pearce at center stage (She went on a few months later to WIN THE EMMY AWARD FOR ALL HER PERFORMANCES IN THIS SEASON OF BEWITCHED, but Elizabeth Montgomery had to accept it for her since she had passed away before the presentation) PRODIGY is a tribute to so many moments during Bewitched season 2 where Alice Pearce was hilariously funny...

An underwhelming story

Only Elizabeth Montgomery's presence gives this episode any value at all. Curiously, the episode starts with the premise of whether little Tabatha had done some kind of witchcraft. Of course, this possibility gets Darren all flustered. The idiot is married to a witch, but he hopes his daughter will be mortal. Instead of continuing in this direction, the story becomes all about Mrs Kravitz's brother, and his failed attempts at being a musician. Who really cared? Jack Weston was a fine actor, but he's completely ineffectual here. The story is uninteresting and unfunny. I hope this is the last we'll see of Alice Pearce as Gladys Kravitz. I don't know who ever thought this woman was funny, but I do not think so. Bring on Sandra Gould. Another observation. Despite being well past Tabatha's birth, Samantha looks like she is pregnant in this episode. Possibly this was filmed before Tabatha's birth episode, but aired afterwards. They should have scrapped this one. The beautiful Elizabeth Montgomery is all you have here. She is just as beautiful in the better episodes.
