Right out of the gate, 'The Demon's Quest' sets itself apart from the rest of the episodes; the lack of title card an unusual move, as well as Robin's abduction lending things an ominous vibe. And in almost no time, Ra's al Ghul has made his sweeping entrance; and with Batman in tow, heads off on the hunt to Calcutta.
Ra's al Ghul is little more than a guy in a cape, but David Warner does an amazing job imbuing him with menace. And it's one thing for Bruce to be foiling some bad guy's plan in Gotham, another thing entirely to go globe-trotting. And al Ghul is no slouch in the comics; you can tell this first half of a two-parter means business.
It's a fantastic episode, full of great animation, a far-reaching mystery and Batman at full badass.
9/10
