Far too clever and funny to be an episode of a kid's show.
Son_of_Mansfield19 May 2007
Warning: Spoilers
The classic villains, The Joker, The Penquin, Two-Face, and others, sit playing cards in a seedy bar. They shoot the breeze as they discuss how they almost got him, Batman. Just seeing all of them together is a blast, but this is also the funniest episode of the series, featuring the best of the voice talent. Mark Hamill shines as always as the MC of villainy. It's not about the stories, most of which are decent, but nothing special, it's about the interplay between all the criminals. Each one has some special twist on how they tried to get 'im. The best is Killer Croc, whose grand scheme includes hitting Batman with a large mass of nonmetallic mineral or earthy matter. Yes, that is a rock. But, the best twist belongs to the man himself. A clever episode that is the most enjoyable of the series.

A Fun Night Of Storytelling
ccthemovieman-18 September 2008
Warning: Spoilers
Any episode which contains all the famous Batman villains has to be entertaining, and this certainly can be called that! We get a bunch of short stories on how each one of these "baddies" almost got Batman - hence the title.

Around the card table at a sleazy bar, playing Poker, are "The Joker," ""The Penguin," "Two Face," "Killer Croc" and "Poison Ivy."" They all relate a short story, which we see, in which they thought for sure that had done away with the Caped Crusader, only to miss out in the last second.

Poison Ivy tells of her exploding pumpkins; Two-Face has Batman tied to a huge penny and is about to have him flattened on it; The Penguin lures Batman into his "Avairy of Doom;" the Croc said the threw a rock at him (everyone looks at him with a "huh?" Apparently, the croc isn't the smartest at the group. The Joker, as usual, has the most creative idea - pretending to be a late-night TV host with Batman wired to an electric chair-laugh meter. The more the audience laughs, the more current goes into Batman. The Joker also provides the best sarcastic lines, too, as he puts both heroes and villains.

In each case, of course, Batman miraculously escapes. Another series regular, "Catwomen," comes to his aid in the Joker story and Batman returns the favor in the final segment of this excellent episode.

The colors in here and artwork is among the most colorful I've seen, which is saying a lot since this is one of the best-drawn animated series I've ever watched.

Winning failures
Mr-Fusion13 January 2017
'Amost Got 'im' has A-game written all over it. The effort and craft going into this are impressive in every department. I love the hook; a handful of the rogues gallery seated at the poker table, trying to outdo each other with tales of ornate Batman deathtraps. And each scheme is memorable, but Joker takes the cake; it's a marvel of playful invention. This episode has a great sense of humor; their prickly banter is wickedly entertaining.

This is the kind of episode that epitomizes "Batman The Animated Series"; all of its assets are on full display. It's fun, looks fantastic, and reminds you how good the writing on this show could really be.

Close but No Cigar
hellraiser78 August 2016
Warning: Spoilers
This is my third favorite episode of the show and another one of my fave episodes in general. In a way this is kinda Batman doing "Resevour Dogs" like in that film it was about criminals gathered together in one place after an incident and we are just getting the back story on what happened. Here we see all of the rogues gathered together playing poker swapping stories, it's also in a way a fan dream as we see most of the Batman Rogue gallery in one episode.

I really loved each of the stories as we see how each of the villains have put Batman in these MacGyver like sticky situations. It's suspenseful because despite knowing the outcome hence the title of the episode, the suspense is on the how, how did Batman get himself out of these situations.

I won't say anything more than that, this is one of those episodes you have to see for yourself. But for a last note I will say this, out of all the rogues there is only one that truly got Batman.

VERY intelligent animation, and so much OUTSTANDING!

Warning: Spoilers
Now, after watching this episode "Almost Got I'm" today, I feel like animation coundn't have been more clever before!

I don't understand, how they ever did get so much fitted in in just ONE episode? This has to an episode, that reminds, how a normal convensation in a day in The life Can say SO MUCH about The changes. You Can take this episode, and compare it With how The characters has really evolved through The time With Batman's history. At least it has to be mentioned, for what it has introduced to us.

I have to watch this episode again and again, and... By The time, I May learn a thing or two from it. Let's just say, that it's good, and nothing Can change that, ABSOLUTELY!

Let's celebrate A Day in time, where everybody has to start a discussion in someway (there May even be someone different from The other in your place, and something you didn't knew before, someone is hiding!)

After all...

FANTASTIC EPISODE of The kids animation series called: Batman: The animated series!

A great opportunity to meet all the famous Batman villains!
wihtkh14 April 2016
Actually, I don't know much about "Batman" series.(Because I love superheroes who have supernatural abilities.) However, after watching this Batman episode, I completely come to understand who is a villain and what villain's character is.

In this episode, there are five villains, each called "The joker," "The Penguin," "Two Face," "killer Croc," and "Poison Ivy". each of them has their own story about missing out Batman in the last second.

As they show the specific way they almost got him in their own story, It's easy to catch their unique features, such as how they attack.

Watch this episode and have fun! I expect you to write a better review than mine after watching it.

My review!!

Warning: Spoilers
lt was first time i watch batman's old TV series. Actually I was born in 1999, and this animation is made in 1992. But i watch this movie having fun and pleasure. It was not boring. And i like the scene that they were talking about their story with batman. They think themselves 'My story is best'. Watching this scene, I can think that scene show us about our real image. It was surprising this TV series is made in 1992! I am really impressed by this animation. I recommend you to watch this TV series because this episode give opportunity to watch all villains at the same time. This won't disappoint you and your friends. Please watch this and enjoy your free time.

One of the best episodes
thomasgouldsbrough16 April 2022
Almost got em is regarded as the best episode of TAS, and it's easy to see why. It features all of the most infamous villains from Batman's rogue gallery, except the Riddler, and has a tightly written, interesting plot. It has all the trademarks of a good TAS episode - original storytelling, dark undertones, and plot elements that subvert one's expectations in a clever way.

Personally, I hold The Man Who Killed Batman, or Harley and Ivy to a higher esteem. Nevertheless, this is a fun, original plot with a very satisfying ending.

Rogues gallery takes center stage
Fluke_Skywalker10 March 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Plot; At an exclusive card game, Batman's rogues gallery share stories about how they almost killed the Dark Knight.

Fun episode with a great hook sees some of Batman's most iconic foes try to one up each other with tales told via clever vignettes. Saving the best for last, The Joker's tale leads to a fun twist and a cute button at the end. Seeing these baddies all hanging out together at what appears to be a weekly poker game was a hoot, and the lighthearted tone was a nice change of pace from the darker episodes I'd been checking out these last few weeks.

  • With all due respect to Cesar Romero, Jack Nicholson and Heath Ledger, Mark Hamill is The Joker.

  • Wow, Adrienne Barbeau voiced Catwoman and Paul Williams The Penguin. Once again impressed by the talent they attracted.

Four showdowns, a spectacular finish!
reddragonhero171 October 2023
A bunch of Batman's biggest rogues gathered around playing cards, telling how they almost got away with defeating the Caped Crusader, is among the most winning premises ever for a pulp fiction style animated series. Batman has to deal with 4 different villains in memorable ways and try to figure out where his secret love Catwoman is, in fact what he does to try and pinpoint it I won't reveal here, you'll have to see it for yourself. Between that, there are playfully sinister banters between the villains, most notably between Two-Face and Poison Ivy for some good laughs as well. When it comes to episodes of this great series, this ranks as one of the best.

Nobody can got'im!
pageart-4025018 April 2016
In this animation, there are so many villains. Poison Ivy, Two face, The penguin, Joker, Killer Croc, they played poker. (Even there is a villain that I didn't know before.)They all have an experience that they almost got him. Of course, they didn't. Batman always escaped dangerous situation as if he had many lives. They talk to each others the episodes, and match who's is the best. Well, I think that joker's is the best. In joker's story, Harley Quinn appeared but I can't recognize her the first glance. Because of the movie suicide squad, I know her. But because this is an old one, she is so different with the movie's appearance that I can't recognize her. In addition, there are a few unnatural scenes in here because this is an old one. But I think that it is one of the attraction's of old animations. Then, enjoy this animation!
