- Barbara Gordon: Yes?
- Bruce Wayne: It's me.
- Barbara Gordon: You're not authorized to use this frequency. Get off it. Now!
- Bruce Wayne: Barbara, you have to listen to me.
- Barbara Gordon: Wrong . Those days are long gone, Bruce.
- [in his V.R. fantasy, Stan has wired City Hall to explode]
- Mad Stan: [laughing] Finally, an end to the bureaucratic nightmare!
- [he triggers the bombs, and the whole building collapses]
- Mad Stan: No more graft! No more payoffs! NO MORE JURY DUTY!
- [laughs hysterically and you see the police watching him laugh while hooked up to the V.R. machine]
- Policeman: Wonder what he's so happy about?
- [Mad Stan continues laughing until the fade out]
- Barbara Gordon: When he comes, you have to hand him over.
- Bruce Wayne: If you take him in, it'll expose his secret. And mine. And yours.
- Barbara Gordon: What other choice do I have... do we have? Believe me, I'm acutely aware of the ramifications. I have a husband running for reelection. How long do you think that'll last once this hits the Web? No one can protect us this time, Bruce. He went too far.
- Mad Stan: You're all infected with the disease of bureaucracy! But I know the cure, man! All of you must be destroyed! ALL OF YOU!
- Batman: [Throws a batarang at Spellbinder's illusion creating device, revealing him, then tackles him] Didn't know you had a shadow, did you, commissioner?
- Barbara Gordon: Spellbinder?
- Batman: He was there at the garage with us, he used his powers to create an illusion.
- Barbara Gordon: That's why I saw you kill Mad Stan.
- Batman: But I didn't. I wouldn't.
- Spellbinder: [as the police apprehend him] You were so ready to believe the worst, it was easy.
- Barbara Gordon: Lock him up! Sorry, kid. I guess I blew it.
- Batman: I've been there.
- [Flies off]
- Terry McGinnis: So the commissioner calls her personally and says she just wanted to award me with a student service medal. So now I'm in, like, schway city with my mom. She's even taking me out to celebrate.
- Bruce Wayne: That's nice.
- Terry McGinnis: You know, this could have been a bad scene. If you hadn't believed in me...
- Bruce Wayne: Old news. By the way, have you heard about your so-called victim?
- Terry McGinnis: Mad Stan? Did they finally find him?
- Bruce Wayne: Oh, yes.
- Barbara Gordon: You're surrounded, Batman. There's no escape. You might as well surrender.
- Batman: Sorry, not in my vocabulary.
- [as he throws a gas pallet, a patrol car opens a panel and a fan disperses it]
- Batman: Oh, I'm fragged.
- Bruce Wayne: Terry.
- Batman: A little busy right now.
- Bruce Wayne: Put your visor through a frequency scan.
- Batman: Why?
- Bruce Wayne: Because I know who's behind all this. And I'm betting he's there right now, hiding behind an illusion.
- Batman: [doing so and looking out at the barrage of cops] Spellbinder.
- Bruce Wayne: I checked the hotel security tapes.
- Terry McGinnis: Yeah?
- Bruce Wayne: There was some kind of electronic interference. I couldn't see anything.
- Terry McGinnis: Aw, jeez. Bruce, you gotta believe me.
- Bruce Wayne: I do. It's too coincidental. There's something else going on here.
- Terry McGinnis: What do we do?
- Bruce Wayne: I'm trying to enhance the video. It's going to take a while. In the meantime, I think we should pay Mad Stan a visit.
- Barbara Gordon: Did he tell you what happened?
- Bruce Wayne: I heard some mistakes were made.
- Barbara Gordon: Mistakes? It took us twelve months to set up that sting. Men put their lives on the line for it.
- Bruce Wayne: The boy is still learning.
- Barbara Gordon: The boy is a hothead. I've been doing some checking on him.
- Bruce Wayne: I know about his record.
- Barbara Gordon: Three months at juvie. Another mistake, I suppose. He seems to make a lot of them. Just make sure this one was his last.
- Batman: So, where does Mad Stan, um... reside?
- Bruce Wayne: Police files say row JJ, number 6.
- Batman: They haven't done the autopsy yet.
- Bruce Wayne: Good. We can do our own.
- Batman: Hey, I had trouble with the frog in Bio Lab.
- Bruce Wayne: An electronic scan should tell us what we need to know. Open it.
- Batman: [doing so] Whoa. Now I'm really creeped.
- Bruce Wayne: What is it?
- Batman: He's gone. Somebody must've gotten here first, taken the body.
- Bruce Wayne: Or maybe it was never there to begin with.
- Bruce Wayne: [watching surveillance footage proving Terry's innocence] Why would Barbara see something different?
- Terry McGinnis: Bruce, you gotta help me. I don't know why, but the cops are after me.
- Bruce Wayne: Did you think you could get away with killing Mad Stan?
- Terry McGinnis: [surprised] Killing? What are you talking about?
- Bruce Wayne: Barbara was an eyewitness. She saw everything.
- Terry McGinnis: All I did was hit him with my elbow. He was knocked out, not dead.
- Bruce Wayne: She wouldn't lie.
- Terry McGinnis: And I would?
- Bruce Wayne: Where are you? If you want me to trust you, you've gotta trust me.
- Terry McGinnis: I'm at Max's.
- Bruce Wayne: Stay there.
- Batman: What now?
- Bruce Wayne: Dump the vehicle as fast as you can. They'll have a tracer on it. You should be flying above Old Town right now. There's an underground tunnel behind the old Majestic Theater. Find it and link up with me when you get there.
- Batman: Big shipment. Armed guards. Late night. What are the chances this little transaction is legal?
- Bruce Wayne: Just make sure you know what you're up against before you jump in.
- Batman: Don't worry. I've got it covered.
- Mad Stan: The whole political system is corrupt.
- [detonating bombs]
- Mad Stan: Money. That's what it's all about, man. Well, I'm gonna stop it. Take out all the big money in one big blast.
- [catching Barbara trying to call for backup]
- Mad Stan: Go ahead, commissioner, make your call. I've wired the whole ballroom. No one gets out!
- [a batarang short-circuits his detonator]
- Mad Stan: Grrr... . you fried it!
- Barbara Gordon: In the last four years, under my husband's leadership, the D.A.'s office has put nine organized crime chiefs behind bars, initiated a no-tolerance policy on unregistered guns, and reduced the plea bargain ratio of violent offenders, keeping them off the streets and in prison, where they belong.
- [applause]
- Barbara Gordon: But he needs your help if he's going to continue to serve the needs of this city.
- Mad Stan: Serve the needs of the special-interest fat cats, you mean.
