'And so it begins'
Tweekums19 September 2018
Tensions are high as this episode opens; the Narn are sabre rattling near Quadrant 37, much to the annoyance of the Centauri, whose space it is. It looks as though the Centauri will have to make concessions but then the sinister Mr Morden offers to help solve the situation... his solution is rather drastic. Meanwhile a lurker who had previously worked with Garibaldi is fatally wounded but before he dies says 'they are going to kill him'; but without saying who. Garibaldi's investigation will uncover a plot that could have serious consequences for Earth politics and puts Garibaldi in real danger. If that weren't enough Delenn is being particularly cryptic.

As season ones comes to an end it feels more like a beginning than an ending. Each storyline raises far more questions than answers; what sort of favour will Morden's backers want for helping Mollari; How will the political events affect Babylon 5 and just what is happening with Delenn? The story provides some impressive action both in space and on the station as Garibaldi gets in danger. The cast are all on top form in a story that included nearly all of the regular characters. Overall a really fine episode that has me looking forward to season two.

Tense and exciting
planktonrules8 January 2007
Warning: Spoilers
This is the final episode of season one of BABYLON 5--and as such, is the last episode to feature Commander Sinclair (Michael O'Hare) in the lead--though he did come back for a couple guest starring appearances. If someone were going to create a "cliff hanger" episode to wrap up the season and excite the fans to tune in next season, this would be about as good as it gets. This is one of the fastest-paced and frantic episodes of the year, as hugely important plots are battling for screen time. And, to top it all off, something strange but uncertain is going on with Delenn. She has asked that Sinclair meet her before something "very important" happens and he promises to be there. However, so much is happening on the ship that he is unable to stop by her quarters when she requested. As the episode ends, she has cocooned herself into a giant chrysalis and Sinclair is too late to see her. And, naturally, fans are eagerly wondering WHAT is going on inside that weird shell? Fascinating and well-written.

Babylon 5--Chrysalis
Scarecrow-8813 April 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Bouncing back from the ordinary previous episode, "The Quality of Mercy", "Chrysalis" is typical of the standards of the storytelling process so important to major fans of Babylon 5. It starts with the death of a lurker named Patrov who had been asked to help load cargo, learning that the items were important in helping to assassinate the President of Earthforce. Garibaldi investigates and is eventually shot in the back by one of his own security officers (part of the conspiracy to assassinate the President). With Garibaldi heavily injured, in the Medlab, and in need of medical assistance to rescue him from such a terrible injury, Commander Sinclair is distraught. Sinclair had just asked Garibaldi to be his best man in marriage to Catherine, too. When the President is killed approaching Io, the resolve of Babylon station is shaken. Subplots of importance galore: the Narn have captured an outpost on a Centauri planet, with military in place to protect this siege of power, Delenn will undergo a certain transformation that is significant in the alliance of Earth-Minbari (with Sinclair later finding her in a cocooned state in her quarters, after shown throughout the episode building the device that would begin the transformation process), Dr Morden of the dangerous Shadows race offers Centauri Ambassador Londo a "favor" to end the Narn capture of the Centauri world in return for a promise in the future (in essence, selling his soul to the devil), and Vorlon Ambassador Kosh seems involved in Delenn's transformation and Sinclair being there to experience it first-hand. There are pivotal moments in any series, and "Chrysalis" is no exception. As Kosh mentions to Sinclair, "And so it begins…"
