Bagna cauda, the entree Michael Garibaldi makes from the smuggled ingredients, actually exists. It is a "hot dip" fondue like mixture made from olive oil, anchovies, garlic and butter. Most often found in Piedmont, Italy.
Delenn tells Captain Sheridan that we are all made of "star stuff." This is actually a reference to Cosmos (1980), where Carl Sagan says "The nitrogen in our DNA, the calcium in our teeth, the iron in our blood, the carbon in our apple pies were made in the interiors of collapsing stars. We are made of star stuff."
The story in "Universe Today" about something living in hyperspace can actually be seen onscreen in And the Sky Full of Stars (1994).

Guest star Russ Tamblyn appeared in West Side Story (1961), Scream Free! (1969), and Twin Peaks (1990), all opposite Richard Beymer. Beymer made a guest appearance on a similar science fiction series, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (1993).
